Hello everyone, I am an aspiring ESL teacher contemplating taking a job with Samyook schools. I am working with a recruiter who has mentioned them to me. Currently I have my diploma notarized and apostilled, I just got my FBI background check in yesterday and am going to use a courier to expedite the apostille process. Anyway, I am curious if anybody can comment on the working conditions with Samyook schools? |

It's a hogwon, sorry for not clarifying that. Have you heard anything about them? |

Sam-Yook schools is a private school. They have elementary and secondary school. As far as I know, students have to interview to get in and it is highly sought after. It's one of old Chosun empire schools still in existence today. As it is a school set up by church, christianity is an important part of school ethos.
So therefore, this offer doesn't make much sense, because Sam-Yook doesn't hire just any teacher off the street, no offence to you OP.
1. maybe a hagwon ripped-off samyook's name, then it's just another hagwon
2. maybe your recruiter hinted at a prestigious school to bait-and-swtich?
Then again, it might actually be THE SamYook school, then wallah! take it. |

This is false. First of all, I was hired off the street at an actual Samyook school. Second, they DO own their own Hagwons. Samyook runs their own education system in Korea that goes all the way up to university level. I think you are just thinking about one specific school.
In general, Samyooks tend to be a complete crapshoot. There are ones that are horrible, and there are ones that are good. Hagwons tend to have a higher miss rate than the schools. |

RangerMcGregor, I see that you say that you were hired off of the street to work for Samyook, but not one of their hogwons? In any event were they a decent employer? |
