Hi guys,

Have you seen these?

http://www.onlinetefl.com/tefl-blog/2013/09/02/i-to-i-tefl-korean-culture-cards/

I just saw them on Facebook and they might be pretty good for beginners in Korea. I remember not having a clue what to order when I first got here and lived off Pringles and microwaved mandu for a month!

Thankfully my Korean has improved a bit since then Wink

Koreans would have absolutely NO idea if you used those romanization forms of words. Some language just should NOT be romanized and Korean is one of them. It sounds awful and not even close to how it should. "iss eoh yo?" Are you kidding. I can just picture some FOB pronouncing it as iss-ee-oh-yo which sounds like gibberish while the Koreans just stare blankly at them.

Just take 3 hours out of your day, learn how to read and pronounce the words. It's as simple as that. You can do it on the plane ride over. Quit being lazy, people.

Never had a problem shopping in supermarkets and cooking in foreign countries. As long as you've got a basic knowledge of ingredients. If you're eating Pringles and microwave mandu it sounds like a lack of knowledge about cooking is more of an issue than language.

You lived off of Pringles and microwaved mandu for a month? In that time I had already learned Hangul and was ordering at local restaurants.

Some people should just stay in their home countries.

What was that old adage, If you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all. What was the point of your reply?
Quit being hateful.

I knew a Canadian girl who lived in Seoul for several YEARS and couldn't read Hangul. In fact, when i told her i could read Hangul she actually didn't believe me (like it was an impossible task or something).
[She couldn't speak French either come to think of it, inspite of being Canadian.]

Anyway, those cards are useful for new arrivals and tourists. Thanks for the link.
