| Both my college student neighbors sleep on the floor. Beds were provided but they chose to sleep on the floor. I used to do it, but I got tired of it. |

| They are going to bring me a bed the day after tomorrow. They were very nice about it. |

| I declined a bed. Sleeping on several floor mattresses was wonderful. It also gave us more room. Who needs a big bulky bed anyhow! |

Just got to Korea. Been up for over 48 hours. Dying for some sleep. Problem? My apartment doesn't have a bed.. or chair.. or any sort of furnishing for that matter. There is a really thin mat, but that's it. I'm working for a public school. Do I say something? I went to look for a thicker mat tonight, but all I can find costs 400,000! Just for a mat. I'm thinking a bigger city will have something cheaper, but the school said they would provide it.

Yes, you should say something immediately. If not, they make think you are content to live like a Korean!
My public school actually put me up in a (H)otel, until my new queen bed arrived. I ,too, arrived at my apartment to a simple blanket. I immediately indicated that I could not under any circumstance stay there until it was completely furnished. They sprung into action ordering all sorts of new wonderful items. Yes, they put me up in an actual hotel with a western buffet breakfast. |
Not really. They just went cheap and hoped he or she wouldn't complain. |

If your contract says you get a bed, a bed must be provided. BTW, I have never met a Korean who sleeps on the floor. They sleep in beds too. Maybe a couple of 80 year old grandmas don't, but I assume you're not an 80 year old grandma.
Pipe up son; the squeky wheel gets the grease. |
Sounds like you've rarely slept wit' Koreans. Come to my goshiwon and have a look at all the beds they've tossed out of the rooms. |
Most modern Koreans with apartments sleep in beds, I mean. Though some may get those stone beds. Mostly it's still old people who sleep on the floor. |
This is accurate. Most Koreans have beds these days. However, in many families the parents or grandparents sleep on the floor while the children sleep in beds. However, even a few of my elementary school age students sleep on the floor.
When it comes to a teacher, however, these facts are not relevant. If your contract calls for an apartment with a bed to be provided, then the school must deliver one, a decent one, in a timely manner. If a bed is not there when the teacher arrives, the school should provide, or at least offer, a hotel accomdation until the bed arrives. A teacher who is a good sport may be willing to sleep on the floor for a few days, but if the teacher requests a hotel room it should be provided without complaint by the school until the bed arrives. |

| Be glad you didn't go work for Wonderland. The Wonderland branch in Anyang gave me a bed that smelled very strongly of urine and there were used condoms under the mattress, stuck to the floor under and behind the bed, etc. I slept on the floor until I pulled a midnight runner. No, I didn't sleep on the areas of the floor where I peeled off the used rubbers. |

LOL at you for signing up to work for a garbage job half way around the world to be put into a concentration camp style cramped house sleeping on jail mats. |
Dude, you have some serious personality issues. |

Thats just nasty.
I once went to a hotel to check it out before booking. They showed me a room and there was a used condom on the floor. Needless to say I didnt book with them |

The first time you see a rat sized cockroach crawling across the floor near your comfortable floor bed you'll be scrambling for a real bed.
I should know cause I also used to love sleeping on the floor. |

| They brought my bed and desk yesterday. It is great to be sleeping on a bed instead of the floor. They threw in four chairs, another table, some pots and pans, dishes, and a fan, too. |

Make sure to set the timer on the fan correctly. I usually set mine for 45 minutes. This is very important. An incorrect fan timer setting can be very, very hazardous, possibly even resulting in death. Your fan should have this extra dial located on it. I believe most all Korean fans have it.
Sweet dreams on that cozy new bed and I hope you wake up to a beautiful sunrise. |
