I like Aussies. Sure, there are a few pricks here and there, but name me a country that doesn't have those.

I meant these are the things people post about Koreans on here. There are bums everywhere. Search any nationality and rudeness will be one of the top things.

Yeah, but posting a bunch of stuff about Australians doesn't really help.

Koreans are like Australians? I don't think so.

What's been shown by that website is that newbies have a hard time where ever they go.

Error. Newbies are full of optimism and willing to overlook a new culture's flaws because they are still in the honeymoon period. Newbies are willing (indeed eager) to have the best possible experience in the new country. It's when the honeymoon ends and the rose-colored glasses come off that people become disillusioned and see the spit, garbage, rudeness, and piles of vomit for what they are.

It takes time. Newbs are innocents, babes in the woods. It takes time to realize that that wolf isn't looking at you because you're so damned handsome.

Exactly. The younger they are and the shorter the time they have spent in country the more postive they are about the place.
I met some of the new intake in my area last night. Mostly mid-western Americans, average age 23, first time outside of the US.
They were all planning temple stays, learning the language, taking Korean cooking lessons, making friends with the locals and pretty bummed that they missed the mud fest this year.
Nice bunch of kids though.

Newbs are newbs, but speaking from experience, a lot of the people who have a negatively biased view (honest as they call it) are in the middle phase of where one should be.

Believe it or not, before I was an uber-apologista I was a basher back home when it came to Koreans. It took some time away and most importantly, being honest with myself and fair towards them to make me understand how things are.

I disagree. Newbs definitely do the first part. However when reality hits they have two choices- they can be disillusioned, a view that is in essence selfish because it is based on the standard that other people on this planet exist to make you happy and the people in this country at some psychological level exist to serve your needs OR they can accept that the people there are like people everywhere else and realize that life is just life, no matter where you are. Just as everyone's DNA is 99.5% the same, everyone's lifestyle is 99.5% the same. We all schlep to work for a buck and try to get laid and get some leisure time in. The stuff that people make a huge deal about being different is really that .5% stuff, most of which is comparable to some other behavior anyway.

Many people are good at finding what other people are. Not so many are good at finding who they are.

Actually, the view that whats out there is a wolf is delusional as well. It's another person and groups of people. Or at most, a fox. Turning it into a wolf is just a different form of delusion.

Really? That foreign country you moved to is a wolf? It may not be Thumper the Bunny, but it certainly isn't the Big Bad Wolf. Get some perspective.
