My apartment was burglarized. My cell phone, some instant coffee, and a bottle of Hite were stolen, and possibly some other items I just haven't noticed missing yet.

I need to get an extra lock on my door. What's the best type, in your opinion, and how much does it cost?

I don't have any information on door locks, but you might consider talking to your landlord about it.

As for getting advice on locks, you can try calling 120 (information helpline) or trying the Global Centers. They've been quite helpful.

Get a deadbolt. Shouldn't cost you more than 50,000 won, and that's a highball guess - you can get them in the US for about 20 bucks.

Couple of options.

One, the deadbolt goes into the door. You have a hole cut in the frame and the catch goes in there.

Two, the lock is mounted ON the door. The catch would be bolted onto the outside of the frame. This is probably your best option - it only requires a hole be cut in the door for the key cylinder to come out the other side.

Of course, a deadbolt is only as good as the door and the frame. Fortunately, most doors I've seen in Korea are built pretty solid, but if your door or frame is weak, a deadbolt won't do much for you.
