Those statistics would make a really great lesson. Have you considered putting them into a PPT?

This links shows that the Foreign English teaching devils in public schools schools have committed a total of 25 crimes over the past 5 years. There are approximately 5000 Public NETS in Korea, so this translates into a crime rate of about 500 per 100,000. However, as it's over a 5 year period, it's an annual crime rate of about 100 per 100,000.

Korea in general has a crime rate of 1347 per 100,000.

So, the average Korean is 13 times more likely to commit a crime, than your average Foreign English teaching devil.

It's not news to me. Similar stats have been available for years to anyone who cared to look at the numbers objectively.

Keep in mind that, unlike with Koreans, the foreign teachers at public schools in Korea are a transient lot. It's not the same 5000 teachers over a five year period. Most do a year or two and go home. So the actually numbers of foreign teachers at PS's during that period was probably between 10,000 and 20,000. That's a lot more teachers 'not' committing crimes.

Yup that's why I said it's more like 100 per 100,000.

Koreans who read that article are unlikely to make that connection.
It gives no background.

All the article basically says is that foreigners are criminals.

Exactly! But the Korean press isn't really known for trying to portray facts in the correct context. All this article will do is scaremonger some ajuma into worrying whether her daughter's English teacher is a dirty criminal, when the bus driver taking her to hagwon everyday is far more likely to have a chequered past.

My ex had breast implants. Fake breasts are overrated and natural ones are better.

Again, if you fantasize about fake breasts you have never felt them. Natural are ten times better. Nice deflection though.

I never said anything about fake breasts, you brought up the fact that your ex had had implants. I've had no experience with it myself but wouldnt be opposed to giving them a shot. I do prefer the look of natural over fake thou, I will admit that.

This article is a joke right? It's actually claiming that not a single foreign English teacher caused a crime in Seoul in the last 5 years?
oh..no wait..
It's only talking about public school teachers, you know the tiny percentage of foreign english teachers, not all english teachers. you know like all those ones working at hagwons. Woops. Another Dave's reading comprehension failure.

This is not a crime rate for all native English teachers in Korea.

The OP bases his calculations on the number of public school teachers to obtain the crime rate for public school teacher. This rate is then compared to Koreans.

I don't see the reading comprehension failure.

He plays fast and loose with using the "public" qualifier. It doesn't appear in the title or his concluding statement.

Shouldn't the rate of foreign public school teachers be compared to the rate of Korean public school teachers as compared to ALL KOREANS?

If people are going to use ALL Koreans then they should use ALL foreigners (not just English teachers).

And he's only using a section of English teachers at that. Not the ones at universities or hakwons.
