I went to the doctor for my knee the other week, and as part of the treatment he gave me a painkiller shot in the left hip/butt area. I know this is totally common here in Korea, especially with antibiotics when you're sick. I've had the shot before.

My issue now is that it is STILL sore. Really super painful, but only when I lay down on the spot or hit it. I sleep on my left side, so this had become an issue. It feels as though something has bit me, or that it is on fire. It is instant, and the pain does subside but it takes a while.

Has anyone else has this problem? I'm wondering how long it will last, and whether there has been any permanent damage done to the nerves. At what point should I go back to the doctor?

Is there any redness or other discolouration around the punture mark?
Do you feel ill in any other way i.e a slight fever?

I doubt its nerve damage. For certain injections, usually vacinations though, it can remain tender for weeks around the puncture site. Just make sure it's not red or hot around that area.

No redness, no visible marks, no fever, nothing.

Just an intense amount of pain when I suddenly hit it or lay on it.

It's super weird. I have tried looking it up on Google, but all I get is sciatica results. Maybe I'm putting in the wrong search terms.

Without those things it is really unlikely to be anything serious. And if it only hurts only with pressure than it's doubtful its a nerve problem. The doctor/nurse would have to be pretty useless to go anywhere near your sciatic nerve area. Give it a bit longer then go to the doc if you are worried. There won't be much he/she can do though.
Just make sure it's not getting swollen or hot.

I agree with this.

If anything, I might gently massage the area. Chances are though, it'll be gone in a few more days.
