So I just moved into a new apartment, as in brand new. Just built a few weeks ago. (Not sure if that is relevant)

An alarm on the ceiling stared gong off and blinking a red light. It was repeating something loudly in Korean. I don't smell any smoke and no one else in the building seems concerned by this alarm. What gives?

It went off for about 2 minutes so I scrambled around to find some clothes and open my door. When I opened my door (pressed the unlock button) the alarm went off. Perhaps related or a coincidence?

Any idea whats going on.

Norks? Update it started going off again... this time for a longer period of time. About 4 minutes... I don't think its just an announcement as its just repeating the same thing over and over again.

Clearly it is saying 'Foreigner opened the door! Attention, foreigner opened the door!'

well, what do you want people to say???

Lots of apartments have loudspeakers or at least A speaker on the control panel that they can make announcements on. Do you live in an apartment or a villa?

It could be a test of the system? It could be a fault in the system? It could be you didn't turn off your gas line? Honestly, without telling us what it's saying in Korean, or maybe a photograph, or some more description, you won't get much.

As far as cutting the wires, I'd hold off. One, if it's new and it's a malfunction, someone could come in and check on it and you'll look like a dick if you cut it. Two, if it's part of the fire/smoke/heat system and something DOES happen, maybe you burn to death? If it's just some BS announcement speaker, by all means cut it. But the fact that you posted this thread tells me you're not sure what's up, so until you know exactly what it is, I'd keep the snippers in the belt.

Sorry for the lack of description. I just got a little freaked out. I have literally been in country less then a week. My Korean is slightly higher then that of a house plant. I really don't think its a speaker making general announcements as it went off after midnight. (Scared the bajeebuz out of me)

I did double check my gas line. (It was off) So I'm really puzzled.

Your'e right, it could be faulty. I tried to get my translator on my phone to recognize the word but no avail.

No one has came to save the foreign damsel in distress so I'm assuming my neighbors didn't think it was too urgent.

If it goes off again ill try to take a video of it on my phone and post it.

Thanks for your help Smile
