I'm drinking soju eveyrday, at least once battle per day but if there's a fresh makouli at the mart I get bottle for 2 days. there's 3 different color of soju btw, red(classic), green and blue(fresh), I forgot about the green because my friends only preferred the blue or get the fresh they say, but I like the classic which is I always bought for myself.

Not much of a fan of any hard liquor(knowing full well soju isn't a hard liquor anyway), but used to drink soju about once a month when I worked at a hakwon that had monthly meetings followed by samgyupsal with booze. I would usually have 4-6 shots to get a bit warmed up and then switch to beer to never return to the soju. Never actually bought a bottle of it. It's cheap and popular here, probably because it's cheap. It definitely ain't anything to brag about though.

I drink it whenever I eat BBQ or dalkkalbi. I really wish there was something else that went good with those kinds of meals though...

The only use I have for soju is to clean the pipes in my bathroom sink.

I'll drink a couple of shots at a hwayshik, but otherwise I won't touch the stuff. Even in middling to small quantities (a bottle or two,) Soju makes me lose time like no other alcohol.

Anyone notice when Koreans ask you if you drink soju and you say no, they beam with pride a little as if you are saying it is too strong for you to drink, instead of that it is disgusting swill?

I only drink it when a Korean offers it. Up until two or three months ago, that had only been two or three times. Lately, these really sweet old guys on the street where I live have shouted for me to join them in their soju tent on my walk home, so for a week or two I was getting sojubombed every night. They're so kind. One guy even grilled me an epic steak. They're so nice, but I've changed my route home on most evenings just because I don't want to drink and feel too bad to refuse their kindness in person. They're such great guys, though. It's one of the cool things about living in a less populated area.

What about makkoli? I had never drank that until last night, actually. An old guy on the porch of the grocery store near my apartment wanted me to drink some with him, so I did. I thought the alcohol content would be like beer. A liter of beer doesn't even buzz me anymore, but that small paper cup of makkoli had be buzzed up and feeling good! I was impressed.

I usually just drink when I watch college football games. This weekend, instead of beer, I think I'll watch the ball games with a bottle of makkoli.

Makkoli's okay; certainly better than soju. I never found it particularly strong though.
