With the season premiere now out for Boardwalk Empire, does anyone prefer one over the other when compared with Breaking Bad?
I like both, but I think I'm going to give the nod to Boardwalk. |

I haven't seen Boardwalk Empire, but Breaking Bad is definitely one of the top 5 shows I've ever seen. The reviews on Boardwalk Empire have been mixed (both from critics and my friends/associates that have talked about it). I have never seen a bad review of BB nor met anyone who didn't rave about it. |

Well if you want, we can meet up sometime and I'll tell you how I only got through most of season 1 and didn't really see the appeal. |

Boardwalk Empire is kind of cool how it mixes fictitious characters and events with the real life people and occurrences. It's a little like a 1920s version of Deadwood in that respect.
Agree B.E can have some slower moments and episodes, and the snooty language can get on your nerves at times, but like Breaking Bad even the slow points seem to serve a purpose towards the overall eventual outcome.
Remember the episode of Breaking Bad which was almost solely based around Walt trying to kill a fly? At the time you're thing "WTF was that shit?", but by the end of the season it's all fallen into place.
Very different shows, but I'd probably put Breaking Bad slightly ahead. The last season of Boardwalk was an absolute bloodbath, however. Enjoyed it a lot. |

Love both but I gotta put Breaking Bad above it. Only because I don't get as giddy for Boardwalk like I do for Breaking Bad. I didn't even realize Boardwalk's season 4 already premiered until later. Nonetheless, the episode was awesome and last season was crazy. I also like Richard Harrow more than any character in Breaking Bad. Nobody beats Omar though.
The fly episode is actually one of my favorite episodes in BB. The symbolism is one of the reasons I love the show. |

I thought Breaking Bad was really annoying, but I seem to be the only person in the world who thinks so. Guess I just didn't "get it." |

Boardwalk is definitely violent. Anyone see the premiere last week - they get to the violence immediately in that show.
I'm going to miss Breaking Bad, that's for sure. I hope they don't let us down with the last few episodes.
Someone above mentioned the TV series Deadwood - if you have not seen this series, check it out! It was just a couple of seasons but really good. If you like Boardwalk and Soppranos, I imagine that you'll like Deadwood, too. |

Apples and oranges.
They're both great shows, and for me personally, they both took a few episodes to get in to. Yeah, looking back on them, the first Breaking Bad episodes were great, but it still took me until about the 4th show to really get into it. Same with Boardwalk - I thought it was really cheesy at first, but once people started getting gunned down it was worth it. But how can you say one is better than the other? They're DIFFERENT. Different times, different premise, different networks, different directors, just everything is different. Breaking Bad came out of nowhere - who is vince gilligan?!? Empire's first episode was done by Martin Scorsese. It's produced by Mark Wahlberg. Besides being the father in Malcolm in the Middle (a feel good, family show), who is everyone else? Boardwalk Empire = Steve Buscemi (He's kinda funny lookin', oh ja? Ja!)
I've got about 5 or 6 shows that I stick to and thankfully they all start and stop at different times so I can at least have an hour or two a week of something to watch throughout the year. Once BB is finally done and gone (which is going to suck, but better to go out at the top), I'll at least have another few months of BE... |

Not apples and oranges - both are prime time TV dramas and encourage a certain viewership for their violence and stories. The temporal significance is apples and oranges but both are the Sopranos under a different name. |

A big fan of both, and the adult serials in general. BE is excellent, but BB is legendary and in the same league as The Sapranos and The Wire. BE works like Mad Men because the setting is a key to the show. One if the very coolest thing about BB is the fact they are ending on a high note. Its metacritic score for season 5 is an unprecedented 99. |

Deadwood is another great show, but still IMO below the other 3 previously mentioned. |
