|
|
I am completing my EPIK application and need advice choosing my preferred POE/MOE as I have never been to Korea. I know my preference is not a guarantee.
I wish to accomplish the following:
-Learn Korean, preferably the standard dialect
-Save money
-Travel within Korea
*I do not care for proximity to anything Western. I'd rather learn about Korea. |

If you're really counting won, the pay per month is 100,000w higher for rural placements -- assuming you meet the basic qualification level, the chart defines pay as 2.2mil for all POEs except Jeju. From everything I've read here, that may not be a tradeoff you want to make (I am a potential applicant also).
If you don't get any particularly useful responses (and even if you do), I suggest you search the forums using Google, not the site search, for particular provinces or cities. A lot of conflicting information, but may shed some light on things for you as it has for me. |

Anything outside of Seoul or Busan will accomplish your goals.
Pay scales are the same within EPIK (so identical jobs in different POEs will pay the same).

I think some EPIK jobs pay less. Busan EPIK pays the worst and other Meto cities pay the second worst. Then, you have provincial EPIK. Then within those provinces are very rural placements where you get more money for being in a rural area and multiple school allowances. But, if you're travelling to Seoul every weekend, the extra money will not be worth and you'll spend more. Only take a rural placement if you can actually stay there most weekends and save. Otherwise, take the lower pay position from public school or hogwan and just live in Seoul. You'll save time and money travelling. |

Chungnam isn't bad. You're still technically rural in most places and you're within 2 hours of Seoul or Daejeon in most places. Considering bus tickets are no more than 11,000 or 12,000 Won to each, you won't be shelling out too much money when you do want to go to a major city. |

If you go for the day and not for the weekend. Motels get expensive. Just saying, do the city, unless you stay in the rural area most weekends. |
