Hi Guys,
I have been looking at the advice on here about there being a requirement for transcripts. Most recruiters websites say the same thing.
However, I was told by the embassy that they are not now needed.
Anyone with up-to-date info, preferably, with a link to the relevant information.
Thanks in advance,
James |

The Embassy gave you the correct information.
Transcripts are NOT needed to obtain a job in Korea.
However, a prospective employer/school MAY require them.
If you don't want to send transcripts, just avoid those schools.
Some schools require certain GPA's, subject areas, etc. |

Where are you from OP?
Unless you are Canadian. Since Canada is not part of the apostille agreement, the degree has to be verified at the Korean Consulate. The sealed transcripts are needed for part of the process to verify. Other programs like EPIK may ask for. Same with some universities?
For general immigration purposes a sealed transcript is not needed.
Vancouver

One sealed university transcript (must be most recently issued and it will NOT be returned) (Conferral information must be shown on the transcript) - ※Transcript issued prior to the convocation will not be accepted |
Toronto

4. A University sealed transcript (Consulate will open and keep the transcript for verification purpose) |
Montreal

Public School Programs
GEPIK - take with a grain of salt. The side is wonky

5. A Notarized and Apostille Photocopy of your University Degree/Diploma
a PHOTOCOPY of the original must be notarized by a Notary Public, then Apostilled by the Secretary of State (http://gepik-tek.weebly.com/apostille-offices-usa.html)
you will be required to bring the ORIGINAL degree with you to Korea |
EPIK

3) Original Sealed Transcripts
You must submit one (1) copy of transcripts for each degree that determines your pay level (you must submit a minimum of at least Bachelor’s degree transcripts). Transcripts should account for all credits earned that were applied toward the degree. If you transferred schools, your transcripts should reflect the credits earned at every institution. If they do not, you must submit sealed transcripts from each institution where credits were obtained.
Although EPIK only requires applicants to submit one set of transcripts, some Korean consulates or embassies may also require sealed transcripts to be submitted with applications for E2 visas (inquire at the consulate or embassy where you will be obtaining your visa). Therefore, it would be prudent to order at least two sets of transcripts.
Transcripts must be sealed. Please DO NOT have the school mail transcripts to the EPIK office directly. Please submit the sealed transcripts along with the other documents.
Current or recent students who have not completed their studies by the time of application must submit a current copy of their transcripts when applying and then another copy of their complete transcripts as soon as their degree has been awarded. |

They were never required. For some strange reason Korean Immigration requires an apostilled notarized diploma copy. Everybody else would require transcripts. |

A few years ago they were required. Of the 7 English E2 countries. Only Canada can not provide a apostilled notarized copy of degree. Thus it needs to go the verification route.
Edited because of bad grammar. I spell sometimes phonetically. Thanks ttom.

Yes, they WERE (note the past tense) an immigration requirement up until Dec 2010.
They were replaced by the requirement to obtain an apostille on the degree.

It varies from embassy to embassy. Most don't, but some do. If you look on their requirements on their websites you will see this. My embassy did not in the case of working for a public school, but if I were to have gotten a visa issuance number in the case of a hagwon, they would have. And all of that is written on their website. |

Yes they were REQUIRED. You must have arrived here after that time frame.
Transcripts used to be the biggest factor in the package. |
