I wanted to get my CRC today but I'm so utterly confused by all the contradictory information out there. Do I *need* to go to the RCMP or just local police? Do I *need* fingerprints, or not?

IF you want the least hassle during the process then get an RCMP check done.
Getting one done with electronic printing at the RCMP doesn't take any longer than one done at the counter.

IF you are IN Canada then get both done if you prefer (even better if you know a notary who works cheap). The cost of getting the embassy stamp (from the Korean embassy) is cheap (less than $5) and having the extra copy of your CRC is not a bad thing.

I recently got mine done.

It took 10 minutes (in the RCMP station) and cost $62.00. I think it depends on where you go.

Finger prints were not necessary. I got it notarized and apostilled last week.

In total it cost me $86.00 (CRC, Notary and Apostille).

I would get the RCMP electronic fingerprint check.

Takes 3 business days.

I kept looking at that. It seems that you have to go to the consulate (the Canadian Consulate in Canada?) to get that form for fingerprint check.

Can you do both a normal one (with no fingerprints) then a fingerprint one (just in case?)

Just go to the RCMP detachment in any of the surrounding cities (Richmond, Delta, Surrey, New West assuming you are in Van) and get one over the counter. It takes less time to do than you have spent asking in here.

I got my record check from my local police but the Check also included a RCMP national check. So check your police force out it should include a local and national check. I'm in Korea so it worked for me. Laughing
