If I wanted to attend university (take just one graduate course) while working a full time job, what visa could I get, if any?
I wouldn't necessarily be teaching English. I feel like immigration would care more than the university, but I'm no Ttompatz so I don't know for sure. |

You wouldnt get the student visa (D2) unless you were a full time student..meaning you were enrolled as a regular student and taking the minimum required credits per semester (usually at least 6-9)
On the student visa, graduate school students can work up to 30 hours per week AFTER you have had the visa for 6 months. Teaching English IS allowed on the student visa so long as you are able to meet the typical requirements for the E2 visa. Pretty much any other type of work is allowed other than working in a casino, juicy bar...etc etc.
Otherwise, if you just wanted to take a single course, you would need some other type of work visa to be in the country. |

You'd need the appropriate work (D or E - class) visa and take the course as an "additional activity" (application and 50k won to add it to your visa class).
NOT applicable if you are on an F2,4,5,6-visa.
You can't work on the D4 and with one course won't qualify for the D2.

Correct, but I believe the amount is 20 hours, not 30. (This is what I was told, but hell, go to Korean immigration, and one person will tell you one thing and another another. But I'm about 90% sure the maximum is 20 hours...which makes sense because studying should be one's main priority on that visa. Don't get behind in your studies. That's a mistake I've made many times before.) |

That used to be the case, but it was changed a year or two ago. Students on D4 visa for language study, and undergrad students on the D2 are limited to 20, but students in masters and PhD programs are allowed 30 per week. It's stat3ed in the guide we are prompted to download ( the revisions to immigrations rules that have not been translated to any other language other than Korean in at least a year) on the immigration website. Many officials are not aware of the rules, but once they look at that file and confirm it..there is never a problem.
It should be noted that this only applies to weekdays. Weekends, as well as summer and winter vacations are unlimited in regards to how many hours one may work. |

Thanks for the info everyone. It was all really helpful.
I'm also surprised to hear about the 30 hour rule for grad students. That is nice to know. |
