most watch companies stopped making radium lit dials a while back due to, you know, the radioactive element of it all. you can still find them out there though.
some manufacturers now use tritium to illuminate their dials/hour markers etc., which is still a radioactive element but the isotypes cannot penetrate human skin at the quantities used.
then there's always the luminescent paint that uses solar energy but it wears off quickly since it can only store and discharge so much energy and the luminosity can be a bit overbearing. |
