I'm looking for an English-Korean dictionary app (free, if possible) for my Android (Galaxy) smart-phone.
What are some good apps? I've downloaded a few (from Google PlayStore) and they don't work well.

ALL the phones sold in Korea have built in dictionaries,
so I guess you have a foreign Galaxy.
If so, try the Korean Samsung program store.
There has gotta be something in there! |

I got a few for my iPad that are helpful that there may be Android versions of:
iTranslate has been a life saver, but requires a wifi connection. One time in a Lotte Mart, I had a conversation about cameras with a worker there by passing my iPad back and forth. When I was done with the conversation, I looked up, and there was a group of about a dozen Koreans just watching in fascination.
I recently got SayHi, which combined the iTranslate functionality with a speech-to-text engine that I can't wait to try out, but also requires a connection.
Dict Box is an offline English-Korean dictionary and probably closest to your needs. |

the built-in dictionaries on almost all korean smart phones are actually incredibly good. they include a lot you wouldn't think like many idioms and the like. no other third party dictionary i've ever seen comes close.
why you would use anything else is beyond me. |

They are not exactly in-built. More like pre-installed.
Mine has ybm E4U - a pretty decent dictionary. I have the the exact same dictionary on my computer (downloaded a cracked version years ago) and it has served me well. As for the android version - I know that it can be bought on some marketplace (do not recall which one), but I haven't seen a free/cracked version anywhere (it came preinstalled on my phone). |

My favorite is 영어 한방 검색. It's free but uses minimal data. It just does a mass search of all the online dictionaries (naver, daum, etc). |
