I saw the race. That guy was fast. |
Even though we know he took drugs, that memory of him winning the 100m and beating Karl lewis is basically timeless.
Karl lewis was later also disqualified for drug-taking, and so was Christie. The guy in fourth is legally the gold-medal holder but I can't remember his name unfortunately.
Its been a procession of top names testing positive ever since. Most athletes are running to make money, not set an example so the problem will no doubt continue. |

Carl Lewis was a pure pimp athlete. A freak before the times. |

Out of the 8 in the race 6 were eventually nailed for performance-enhancing drugs. But, I think Lewis was never caught, but rumors which I believe. So that was 7 of 8 runners that were/probably juiced up. |

Fact-trick Patrick. That annoying Canadian inferiority complex regurgitating out again.
Quote: |
The highest level of the stimulants Lewis recorded was six parts per million, which was regarded as a positive test in 1988 but is now regarded as not performance enhancing. The acceptable level has been raised to ten parts per million for ephedrine and twenty-five parts per million for other substances.[74][78] According to the USOC rules at the time, positive tests with levels lower than ten parts per million were cause of further investigation but not immediate ban. Neal Benowitz, a professor of medicine at UC San Francisco who is an expert on ephedrine and other stimulants, agreed that "These [levels] are what you'd see from someone taking cold or allergy medicines and are unlikely to have any effect on performance."[79] |

If most or all of the runners were drug users, doesn't that make it a fair race?
Maybe Ben should get his gold medal back. |

He was a convenient scapegoat from a relatively unimportant country. As long as the IOC drug testers are pressured to 'pass' tests from certain countries... cough... cough... USA, China, Russia... it's questionable who gets banned and not. |

Yup - enjoyed that show.
Truth is, testing is a joke. I know why they do it, but obviously things aren't on an equal playing field. Kind of wish there was a tested, and a non-tested Olympics. |

Johnson was more juiced up than an East German swimmer and he deserved his sanction.
Lewis did too but escaped it. |
