Dear trusted advisors,

I am coming to Korea in December. Any tips, resources for a definitive checklist would also be much appreciated!

My (3) Specific Items in Question:

1 year supply of daily wear contact lenses (this is a pretty big box)

14 oz bottle of natural Household cleaner - sealed
(from online distributor only - not for sale in stores)

15ml bottles of Essential Oils (several)

No problem at customs/entry into Korea with any of it.

Getting OUT of YOUR COUNTRY on the other hand is a different matter.
Your household cleaner is probably a banned item for checked baggage coming from the States and certainly NOT allowed in your carry-on.

Customs clearance into Korea (and most other Asian countries), unless there is something flagged by the drug dogs or at x-ray, is usually nothing more than passing through the "nothing to declare" line on your way out of the glass doors.

Customs entry inspection? Do they actually ever stop anyone? Once I had things to declare and wrote them on the sheet, and when I walked up and tried to hand it to the fellow he refused it and just waved me through.

They stop Koreans a lot. Usually looking for expensive handbags and fruit.

Yeah, unless you look nervous or shady they probably won't even question you. Just don't declare the items in question (hopefully the full list is nothing illegal). If they search and one of the items you listed is not allowed they will confiscate it and that's that. They're not going to fine you over those items.

I've brought cans of Lysol through Incheon and never had any issues. Like the posters above mention, you're rarely looked at coming in here.

You do know that there is a postal system in both your home country and in the Republic of Korea, don't you? Have the things sent to you.

There are outfits in Korea that sell natural household cleaners. You might even be surprised to find what types of cleaners are sold at the stores in Korea.

You can get these mailed to you also.

Look, Korea isn't the backwater it was during the Korean War. That was a long, long time ago and it's not that difficult to get modern conveniences in Korea now.

I had four bottles of single malt scotch that I bought for a friend of mine. Being as I didn't pay for them, I tried to declare them, as I wasn't going to pay a fine for trying to sneak something through for someone else. The inspector waived me through like I was stupid saying that I was within the limit for wine. I didn't argue.
