According to my contract, I'm owed up to 1 million won after completion of my contract to pay for a plane ticket home. However, I have to give them an itinerary to receive this money.
If I'm staying in Korea after my contract, do I give up this chance to get that money? Is there a way I can print out an itinerary that I won't actually use? |

What is the exact wording in the contract for that? For some outfits, such as EPIK was two years ago, they'll only pay you if you depart Korea for good within a certain time frame after the end of your contract and they'll pay either to your home country or to where you're planning to travel, whichever is cheaper. For other outfits, the flight home is connected with a renewal of contract. All depends on what your contract says and/or what you can convince your employer to agree to otherwise. |

The contract says "Up to 1,000,000 won will be paid for return ticket back home after completion of the contract. An itinerary must be handed in for the reimbursement."
They also told me they will only give me the money when they see the actual itinerary. I was wondering if it is possible to get one printed out, even if I'm not actually going to use it. |

Nope. No travel, no pay. Itinerary doesn't mean "What I wish it would be if I were to actually travel." It means "this is my trip." |

Pretty scumbag move when teachers are trying to cheat their employers out of a million won by asking how to make a fake travel itinerary document to fool their employer into handing over the cash.
You're part of the problem why so many teachers here are getting screwed. |

Is it a scumbag move if I choose to go home and he pays me a million won? Either way, he pays a million won that he was willing to give up. What does he care? He's not actually paying for it. Our school is funded by the Government.
This guy is constantly firing people left and right. Making us work Saturdays and before work, without pay, telling us we will lose our severance if we refuse. The list goes on and on. This guy is the real scumbag and I won't lose any sleep taking what is already owed to me. I've always done my job professionally and never complained. I've always gone to bat for him when the other teachers told him to *beep* off. For once, I'm looking out for myself and try to get a measly million won, in a land full of scumbag employers. |

I don't see any problem with it. If they were willing to give the money in lieu of a ticket their wouldn't be a need for the fraud. Just because one doesn't go home I don't see why the employer should save money.
You can book a one-way with Korean Air, pay with a credit card, have them reimburse it, then call Korean Air and refund it (less I think it is 50,000 won).
I remember my first hogwon. If I renewed my contract no plane ticket or money. So I changed to another hogwon down the street. Hogwon A then paid me to go to Canada, hogwon B then paid me to fly back. If hogwon A had paid for a trip home at the end of the contract I might have stayed for a second year. |

If you are working for a public school, I second what the other posters said, and have done so myself: Book a refundable ticket, print it out, submit it, and then cancel the ticket.
I tried to save my school money by giving them the option of buying me a $320 ticket to Japan instead of an expensive ticket to the USA. They refused and told me that I had to go to the USA, at three times the cost.
I bought an expensive ticket to the US, cancelled it, took the 1,000,000 cash instead and bought my $320 Japan ticket. Thanks Klowns! They could have gotten away with paying for just my Japan ticket, but instead, the funded the trip and hotel and spending money as well. Think about all the times you had to desk warm while the Korean teachers went out drinking. You won't feel so bad about taking the money then. |

Public schools usually provide an additional payment at the end of the contract that usually completely reimburses the plane ticket. I don't think he is from a public school. It doesn't matter if you leave Korea or not you get the payment. |
