Just arrived in Korea last week. Wondering what point cards are out there (like Lotte card) that maybe you know about our wish you knew about earlier? Also what are the perks of the card? |

Get a Happy Point card at Pairs Baguette. You get 5% of your purchases back on the card and you can use it at a few different places. |

lotte point card and happy point card are the only mileage cards i use via the smartwallet application for smartphones. i also have mpoints on my hyundai cards and asiana mileage on my shinhan cards.
also, don't be stupid like most people and use cash here. i never use cash. you get a very significant amount of money back at the end of the year here for taxes if you use your credit card/debit card AND you get whatever mileage program that card offers to boot.
the only way to get money back at the end of the year for taxes if you use cash is to first tie your phone number to your national id or get a tax id card and state you want to use your tax id with every cash purchase. i'd assume that'd be a major hassle. |

You have to register your credit card/debit card as well to get that tax credit back. If you use cash the clerk usually asks you if you want to type in your number. It's just taping some numbers in the debit card signing screen. |

not true. it's automatically tied to your alien registration when you are issued it, and it's automatically tracked. there is no signing up for it beyond signing up for the card initially. |

The point cards are good for getting discounts in restaurants and such. However, many of the smaller retailers will often give discounts when you pay them cash.
There are often 2 prices here. The foreigner price and the Korean price. I'm always amazed how my wife can buy a bag of apples, clothing, refrigerator, etc., cheaper than I can. |

Unless you use your mobile on a prepaid scheme, get the membership card from your carrier whichever it is. Foreigners are not excluded from signing up, are entitled to the same discounts from affiliated franchises. |

I have the phone and card schemes down to a science. She is just better at haggling prices and getting the bonus gifts. |

Frankly, only half a dozen franchise out of 42 'affiliates' may be any relevant. Nor can I say you 'save a fortune' with this. Still, it doesn't cost you any extra to have a plastic issued to you. |

I have an LG U Plus card and it's good at TGI Friday's and a number of other places. I normally use the card at Paris Baguette and GS25. |
