Canadian Police Check: June 24 2013, Korean Consulate Seal same day
D10 Visa issued from Canada: Sept 10 2013
Arrived in Korea: Sept 26 2013
ARC Application: Today Oct 10 2013
ARC Ready: Oct 31 2013

I found a school I like and they want to hire me. I called immigration wondering about changing my status without an ARC card and they said it was fine as long as I do get an ARC before 90 days. During the interview the school phoned and asked the same question and they said I should apply for an ARC before switching. I applied today for an ARC and asked the woman about switching to E2. Her English was poor and it is very difficult to hear because it is a zoo in there but she told me (I think) I have to wait until Oct 31 then I can apply to switch to E2, I would also have to pay again for a new ARC card and that it would take 1 month to change from D10 to E2. After I was done I called immigration (their English is better) she said you don't need an ARC to switch and I can apply to switch while my ARC is in process and it should only take 1 week to change from D10 to E2. So I am getting two different answers. It is quite frustrating because the school wants me to start either on the 17 or 27. Waiting a month to switch from D10 to E2 seems crazy! I am also curious if they are going to make a fuss about my police record check because it has been a little over 3 months so far but when people switch from E2 to D10 and back do they need to provide new Police Checks? I feel because I haven't left Korea I shouldn't even need to show my police checks. I need some help!

I'm almost certain police checks are good for 6 months now. So you should be fine. I'd get additional confirmation of that though if I were you.

Everything seemed to work out. I went back to immigration with all the papers from the school, even talked to the same lady who said I would have to wait until the arc was done. I just didn't really say anything, handed her my documents and she knew what I wanted and processed it without a fuss.

Good to hear. Thanks for the D-10 info. I was wondering how registration would go with immigration and an out of country D-10 applicant.
