I went to turn in my documents, but immi said I needed a notarized seal of my marriage registered in America. I told the lady that the US embassy doesn't do that and that they gave me this paper as proof. But the lady said no we need a raised seal proof of your marriage in America. What do they need??

When I got mine, I downloaded and printed out the form from the US Embassy website. You take that in, with whatever other documents...I forgot, but all the info is on the website. You sign everything, then pay $35, then she will stamp it and notarize it. You also need to go and get a copy of the form translated into Korean.

I took that, and the registration form to the local gu-chung (district office) and they gave us a Korean marriage registration certificate and kept the form from the embassy.

Did you go to your district office first and register the marriage?

Well, hopefully all that happened was, I had two copies of the document that states that the US embassy doesn't have a registry like Korea. The immigration lady got confused by this and just threw up her arms and said no this isn't right. My mistake, I forgot I had gotten two copies and left them in the packet that I handed in to the lady. I'll try going again later, my wife complained to the immigration office about it and this seems to be the case.

I just did this dance a few weeks ago, was told I needed to get another paper with the raised seal from the embassy. Went to the embassy and they said they had no idea what immigration was talking about. Went back to immigration and they told me that I was still missing the raised seal stamp paper. I explained to them that I'd just come from the embassy not 30 minutes ago and they had no idea what I was on about. The immigration guy made some phone calls, said the way it was done was wrong on the part of the embassy but didn't want me to have to go back again, said he'd take care of it. And that was the last I heard of it.

I wish they would have been helpful like that here in Gwangju... Unfortunately for me Gwangju has the worst reputation for immigration officials. They wouldn't talk to anybody for me about this nor explain what it was I needed. I even called 1345 and they told me the same thing and when I said that America doesn't have a central registry for marriage the lady said, "Well, I'm sorry to hear that, but..."

Did you fill out this form and have it stamped?

This is the one that I took to my district office to get the marriage certificate and then I took it to immigration and told them that "this forms shows that I registered with my embassy"
It was a stretch of a lie, but they had no idea what they were looking at, regardless of the fact that I had the document translated. But, for all appearances sake, it looked official enough to them and two weeks later, I got my F6

I did that, but that was taken away at the City Hall office to get married. Anyway, we went back and talked with another person and the guy seemed to understand what was going on and was willing to listen. He was able to go ahead and start processing my documents. So, we'll see if I get my visa or not. He said it would take about a month or so until I would receive it though...

They say it will take a month, but that is usually because they will go to the residence of Koreans marrying someone from Vietnam, China, The Phillipines, etc. to make sure the marriage is legitimate. In my case, because I'm from the US, they figured I wasn't getting married for the visa only.
Like I said before, they told me a month and two weeks later, I got a phone call and went and picked up my new ID.
