There is an adequate hotel (reasonably clean and quiet/hot water/AC/TV) for about 30,000-35,000 won (last time I was there); more or less across from Itaewon McDonalds (Mrs. Kim's place; behind the Nike store) go up the 1-2 meter wide alley beside the Nike store and you will see it on the left side...

Can anyone recommend a hotel / motel in the greater Itaewon area that is both relatively cheap and clean? A friend in Busan wants to meet up in Seoul and stay the weekend. I have no ideas about Seoul hotels / motels, so if anyone is in the know I'd appreciate your recommendation.

Cheers.

Cheap and clean? Ha ha ha ha. No such thing. I'm guessing for a clean and somewhat safe room, you'd pay a minimum of 70,000 won in Seoul and maybe 50,000 in the rest of the country. Anything less than that will be pure sleaze and your wallet will probably get stolen.

I looked for that the other day, but I couldn't find it. Nike has now moved to the same side of the road as McDonalds and I'm not certain of its previous location. Could you give a bit more detail about where Nike used to be. When was the last time you saw the place?

Cheers.

70,000 won is fine.

There's a new hotel up Hooker Hill, built on the location of the fire a couple of years ago. From the outside it looks okay, and I think it's the first of many new buildings that will go up on the hill over the next five years. I have no idea what its called, its rates or clientelle, but you might check it out.
