This article got me thinking... I don't think I'd come here for the food. I dig many Korean dishes, but I don't think I'd ever yearn for them.

I left a few years ago, and I frequently crave Korean food. 떡볶이, 매운오뎅, and 빈대떡 from the street market (never found these even halfway decent in restaurants), 굴밥, 추어탕, 누룽지탕, 해물떡찜, 들깨칼국수, and 수제비 are all very, very high on my list of all-time favorite foods. And freshly grilled 장어... *drool*

I've wondered if I'd miss Korean food if/when I left. I suppose a lot of it would be if I had any access to it in North America.

Also 회덮밥, 호떡, 알탕, and 한정식. Most of these dishes require access to fresh ingredients that are very difficult to source outside of Korea or its neighbors.

I really don't understand the people that despise Korean cuisine in its entirety. Not everything has 김치, 된장, and 고추장 mixed in.

Most of the Korean foods I dig are fairly mundane - Jjuk, Soullungtang, Kalbitang - not really stuff that I'd ever go too far out of the way for. I like them, but they're not "special" to me.

If you notice, most of the stuff I listed is fairly seafood heavy. Might be what makes my experience a bit different, as the local food back home doesn't start to lean towards seafood till I get a few hours closer to New Orleans. All I can get around my area is basically fried catfish or fried shrimp. Not the most exciting of fare.
