the stereotype about asian kids being angels may be true in in some parts of the continen

Funny story about a Korean friend's parents when they heard I was going to teach in Korea. The mother said Korean students were all angels. But, the father said that's because she went to an all girls school. He warned me boys are like boys all over the world. If you stick a bunch of boys in a school for only boys, what do you think is going to happen?

He said he smoked in the bathrooms starting in late middle school. And if they were caught, they would get beat on the ass so hard he couldn't sit down comfortable for weeks. But he said that was actually a good memory that help create bonds between his friends by sharing a beating, and was much better than what they had in store for their military service. But he thinks now Korean kids are a bunch of pansies, who can barely stand being away from their mother's milk for 2 minutes. And talks about taking away corporal punishment is asinine, especially for boys. He said boys needed to be dealt with strictly if they make dumb mistakes. But he also said that not many would dare to go against the teacher. If a teacher said quiet, they'd shut up pretty fast. It was during the breaks and out of school when they went wild.

Unfortunately, I chose to believe the mother. After about two months reality set in and I realize the father was right.

The father sounds like a bad*ss and he's totally right about everything he said.
