|
|
A few years back I did an awesome hike on Dobongsan. Kind of like a mini-Yosimite/Half Dome thing - some steel cables and iron handrails on the last couple of hundred meters. Stunning views of the urban sprawl (Ueijongbu??) sprawl below... It was an all day hike... Would like to do it again over the next couple of weeks; can anyone tell me what subway station/exit? |

The main entrance is outside Dobongsan Station on line 1.
Alternatively you could try ascending from Dobong Station Subway, (which is the route I took).
Unfortunately when I went up in mid march there was still much ice near the top which made it dangerous. Someone slid own a rock face and broke their leg when I was there. I'm not going to climb it again. |

망월사역 or 도봉산역 will both get you to the trail head. I prefer the former to the latter for two reasons. The trail is a bit more interesting and there are fewer hikers.
I'm leading a group up this Sunday. If you'd like to join us you're more than welcome.
Let me know and I'll PM you the details.

My favorite path is to start near Yeonsinnae Station (연신내역) head up to the main ridge line past Bibong to the fortress and follow that to as far as Baekundae, and then drop down the western side to Bukhansanseong Information Center. And get the bus back to Gupabal Station. |

I'm also looking for info on good routes to take for Bukhansan. Where do you get the best views of Seoul? |

Seoul is a pretty big place. Good views are available from pretty much anywhere in the park. Are you looking for specific sights? What Gu are you interested in starting from? Do you prefer strictly hiking or is scrambling and climbing okay? You can obtain a decent view with as little as a 350 meter climb to the lower peaks or you can hit the higher peaks in the 700 meter plus range.
A little more information from you and I can recommend a decent trail.

T-J,
Thanks for the offer but I am afraid the leaves haven't peaked just yet... Maybe 1-2 weeks later... |

The hike I recall was an all day loop hike and had hand-cables near the top. Anyone know the name of that peak? |

I'm thinking it was Jaunbong, then back via Podae Ridge to Mangwolsa Station?? |

Is it possible to do a relatively easy hike up parts of Dobongsan/Bukhansan, and avoid any serious climbing/scrambling up cliff faces? If so, where would it be best to start from? |

There are many trails up the valleys that involve no rocks or scrambling. Simple stair walks ups to the top. I recommend the southern most peak in the park (족두리봉) for people that are not wanting too strenuous a hike but still want to reach a peak. It's only 350 meters and has a very easy stair path up from 독바위역 (6 line). Offers very nice views of Seoul and you can be up and down in under two hours.
