Hello,

I'm in Seoul at the moment but I've booked a flight through China Southern to Guangzhou.

When making the booking I failed to provide my middle name. Now, is that likely to be a problem?

China Southern won't insert my middle name and my flight leaves on the 24th. I asked if it's going to be a problem and they told me "it might be".

should I:
a) just go and hope for the best, risk losing $400.
b) re-book the ticket and lose $200.

I'd go for A. Though I have no experience with this and am just some rando on the internet. I mean, what kind of dick company wouldn't let you on because of no middle name? I think you'll be cool. You'll be able to prove it's you with your passport and credit card info.

You should be fine with option A.

However, if you require more assurance, you should contact China Southern again. But this time, request to speak to a manager.

As an additional safeguard, if you have any i.d. or documents (eg. credit card statements, payday slips, etc.) that do not include your middle name, make sure to bring them with you to the airport. These will help convince the airline's check-in staff that it is common practice for you to omit your middle name on important documents- thereby increasing the likelihood of being issued a boarding pass.

I just took a bunch of flights in Asia with just my first and last name on the ticket, didn't have any problems (and the ID I routinely showed- my passport- had my middle name on it).

Now if you were traveling in the USA, I'd say you might be screwed, but I think you should be ok.

I did the exact same thing for my flight that leaves just a few days before yours. I thought I was just filling in my basic info-no need for middle name, but then it was too late..

I have to middle names, and my passport has only one, im sure ive done this before.... I will let you know how I go on December 22 Smile

Yes it "might be" a problem. totally depends on the person checking you in and the people checking your plane tickets as you board the plane....

I have a Very long name on my passport because of my birth certificate. Something along the lines of Luke Gerald Richard Doe ( fake name.. mine is actually longer than this,, just an example). but the name i use and see on my drivers license would only be Gerald Doe...

Its damn annoying especially when I travel internationally outside of Canada. I always have to make sure that ALLL the names that show up in my passport show up on my plane tickets or else I have nothing but problems. I found out the hard way when i was travelling from Canada to korea via japan. Alot of booking places dont have enough space to put in all my names .. actually alot of places dont even have a middle name input box. What I have to do is put everything in the FIRST name input box.

I wouldn't risk it. I would call customer support ( wherever you've booked your tickets) and get them to Change your ticket. Some places will just do it for free others will try to charge you... I usually end up complaining that their website/booking didnt allow me to enter my middle names.. They usually end up doing it for free... I've been pretty lucky..
