Yes, I was saying this.

No, I was not saying anything like this, at least for any definition of "success" you'd be likely to recognize.

Too funny! It's like something out of The Onion. Laughing

The ole blame the foreigner routine. Like if the KKK said there were foreign experts involved in the designing of the white sheets.

I believe what Fox is saying cryptically is he is a Buddhist. Pain and suffering and all that is just the human condition (life's condition to be pedantic I suppose).

He cannot be concerned for others suffering because that is their karma. It is up to them to solve their pain, that is their path. Their suffering is caused by their own confusion. Pain, poverty, injustice, inequality, and despair of others are not his problem. He is not his brother's keeper.

Or as I paraphrased it earlier in this thread, pull yourself up by your bootstraps, it is not my problem, you're on your own.

theres nothing racist at all about the ad. Nothing. Just some uppity over-sensitive pansies that walk around in life pre-offended so as the littlest thing will set them off to full blown offended meltdown mode.

The "Cracker Your Wardrobe" part still has me laughing my ass off. I guess the magazine hasn't sold many copies. I haven't seen many Koreans wearing Pointer bib overalls and straw hats. Laughing God, what a hilarious article. I'll be chuckling about it for as long as this thread is on the front page of Dave's reminding me about it.

Are people angry that it depicts monkeys and not gorillas?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AHDtXqjgEj4

Cause comparing people to monkeys is insulting...but gorillas not so much.

What am I trying to do? Very simply point out that this topic can be discussed WITHOUT resorting to the same kind of xenophobic/racist remarks that we blast the Koreans for. Of course if you don't wish to discuss it like a mature responsible adult and would rather engage in infantile name calling, feel free to do so. That supports my point more than anything I could say.

Nah that is pretty much what happens to every thread on Dave's. Instead of talking about the issue at hands it becomes a gabfest about how foreigners have disrespected Korea or Koreans in some way. And you are trying to point out trolls to demonstrate this, which is even more ridiculous.

Do you have an opinion about the monkey cigarettes? Or is that a non-issue because it doesn't offend Koreans?

So we shouldn't call people out for making racist remarks?

Speaking of trolls...putting words in people's mouths and ascribing feelings to them they've never held might be thought of by some as the very definition of troll.

As for the cigarettes...I think it's way overblown. The package was (apparently) designed by a Spanish "expert" and yet somehow this is linked to Korean racism?

You aren't trying to call anybody out here, you just don't want to talk about a racist advertisement in Korea so you have chosen to focus on two people that made intentionally racist comments to get a rise. It's like the racists and guys like you feed off each other. Like I said, the issue on the thread is an advertisement that is disrespectful.

And you bought the whole Spanish expert scapegoat story, that's hilarious. I'm not even going to get into that issue because you are obviously lying to yourself at this point.

Translation "I'm not going to talk about this issue because you're right and talking about Korean racism when it was a Spanish person who designed this package just makes me look silly."

Oh well better luck next time.

Do you use babelfish when you do these kinds of translations?
If so, your skills of rhetoric are dependent on luck.

lol. Well actually I'm game, I mean the more we talk about it the more ridiculous the excuse will sound. I imagine it was one of those excuses people are just supposed to nod and accept for face saving purposes even though it's obviously bogus.

Unless you think the Korean people involved in this were so stupid and naive they just nodded in enthusiasm as the obnoxious Spaniard presented this it just doesn't hold up. This is a lose lose, either they are too stupid and ignorant to see what a disaster waiting to happen this was so they approved of the ad, or they just didn't care if they upset some Africans. No real way to spin this positively, it would have just been better to apologize. Actually, if the company had just apologized and said they screwed up and talked about how they were unaware of the impact this might have it would have been way more classy then trying to pass the buck.

I like to just picture a few Ajossis around a conference table having a laugh, then later on realizing the error of their ways and not letting it happen again. That type of thing happens everywhere, and while sad, it's understandable. Unfortunately the excuse just makes it sound like their really isn't any concern or accountability here (unless you are Spanish).

Koreans calling fellow humans monkeys?

LMAO@ their massive inferior complex, and total double standards. Rolling Eyes

It's funny, I was at a BBQ the other night (outside of Korea) and I got chatting to a Korean guy. So, he asked me what I thought about Korea/Koreans. He was a tad surprised (to say the least), when I gave him a full round down, of how racist Koreans are to foreigners. Twisted Evil

Even funnier, was when another guest (a guy who worked for a semester in Japan) at the BBQ, piped up that Korea was definitely now off of his list of places, to ever visit. Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy

It's no secret that Koreans are racist in general, and the worst country in Asia to live in, one look at the regulars confirms that it is not a sane mind that stays long-term in Korea.
