Hm. Like so many other SNL skits, that one just doesn't quite come together. |

I never really could get into The Velvets or Lou Reed. Dunno why. I remember buying a couple of Velvet Underground albums back in the day and REALLY trying hard but I just didnt feel the love.....unlike the manic passion I experienced when I listened to the other 2 great 'lost' bands of the 60s - the Stooges and the MC5. There was a kind of sleaziness in Reeds music that I always found offputting. Call me a prude or geek or whatever but I just didnt get it. Nonetheless Reed was a HUGE influence and modern music wouldnt have been the same without him. A sad day to lose such a musical giant. |

Yodanole:
Thanks. Been a long time since I had heard that version of Sweet Jane, or indeed any version besides the Cowboy Junkies.
I wonder if he ever got the idea to sue Boston over More Than A Feeling. |

I haven't thought about this in years and it's so funny to me now that I think about it, but during my last semester in high school I did a work program thing as I'd fulfilled pretty much all of my requirements and it allowed me to leave school at noon. Worked in a boring office after school for a few hours, nothing special. But I found out that my boss, who was an all around good guy, had been in a band that used to open for the Velvet Underground, or was associated with them in some way in the early 70s. Wish I could remember their name now, but he was open with the office about a claim to fame where Lou Reed asked if he could give him a bj one night back in the day. He claimed he declined. |

This is why catchers get moved to 1st base. The claimant's statement implies that he was on the receiving end... or, he had a very disappointed wife. |

I'm Sick Of You
Somehow, the late 80s now seem even tackier than the 70s. I'm referring to the things the song spoofs, not the song itself, though the two kinda do overlap into one another. |
