Looking to apply to one of these two provinces for public school positions. Are these areas alright to live in or are they too rural? I'm more of a city person so I'm kind of on the wall with this, but I still prefer doing a ps over a hagwon. More or less I'm worried about not having enough things to do over in those locations.

Also, what do you guys know about the pros and cons to living in these provinces? I guess what I'm trying to say is if you guys had to make a choice, which one would you choose?

Eh, those two provinces are covered by EPIK, so don't bother. Laughing

Um, actually there are actual public school positions you can apply for in those regions that are not related to epik but are still government sponsored that start between February-April 2014. There's also IMOE too, which is seperate from EPIK and offers public school positions in Incheon as well; However, you have to make a 2 minute introduction video of yourself to apply, as well as complete all other documentation you'd normally have to fill out for EPIK. How I know all this is because of the information Korean Horizons gave me, which is the only recruiter I've found so far which is able to offer ps positions not related to EPIK.

Going back to my original question, has anybody had experience living/visiting in these provinces?

Well, they are open to all other recruiters, too. However,...

You will have plenty to do where ever you go. e.g. learn how to live in Korea.

If I had to choose, I'd go with KyungNam because ChungNam's water is so not drinkable.

Nobody drinks the public water anywhere in South Korea, anyway. The Cheongchungnam-do bus system is probably vastly more convenient in terms of getting to Seoul on a weekend. Also Chungnamers are probably a lot friendlier.

Last time I was in Chungnum they didn't use EPIK, they did their own hiring.

I'm in Chungnam & no ,it's not too rural - Daejeon is a 30 minute train ride from my town & a 45 min bus ride. Seoul is under 2 hours by KTX & 2 - 2 & 1/2 hours by express bus.

Not every town in Chungnam has a train station tho, but they pretty much, all have buses, I believe.

I went thru Korean Horizons & Alistair was very helpful. It's NOT an EPIK program , but it offers same pay / benefits as EPIK.
