Since most Koreans live in small spaces and seem to utilize their floor space, why are Murphy Beds not all over the place? While I've only experienced the insides of many cramped Seoul apartments and countless love motels, I haven't seen this kind of bed around. Is this the million won idea? The underside could feature a giant mirror so it isn't wasted wall space when folded up. (ha)

Not needed when you just sleep on the floor.

However, wouldn't that be a nice option to have? If you slept on the floor every night, what kind of delight would await you when you realized you could pull your bookcase from the wall and sleep on a comfy bed or offer it to a guest? If neither of those scenarios are relevant, you would still have a nice bookcase (with barriers for the books) or a mirror.

More to the point and an honest question: why roll out a mat when you could fold down a bed?

I've seen them in some goshiwon.

But it's a matter of expense..peasants didn't have them, and it took resources, a mat/blankets you just folded out were cheaper/easier

We bought a Tempur-Pedic...no foundation/base, lays on the floor, 12 inch thick...weighs around 80lbs...and it is the most comfortable bed either of us have slept on. And when we return to the U.S., it's going with us!
25 year warranty...it'll outlive us maybe!

Ah- that makes sense. IPIC, can you verify this goshiwon claim?
