I recently traveled to Japan, and they are a lot different from the Koreans.
One thing I love about Japan is their traffic system. They stick to the rules and they simply don't drive all crazy on the road.
Koreans will bump into you while walking but never with the Japanese. People will generally try to avoid you by moving a little to the side. Back in the states, if someone accidentally bumps into you, they would say sorry but don't expect an apology here in Korea.
Koreans seem to care about others so much even strangers. They criticize others very easily and is quick to judge them, while in Japan, its the other way around. In Korea, if you go in a coffee shop because you want to have a slice of cheesecake by yourself, be prepared to have eyes prowling on you. In Japan this is not the case. They simply mind their own business. You can go to a BBQ Dine-in restaurant in Japan by yourself without having any eyes prowling on you.
Japanese people go out their ways to help you. If you ask someone for directions, they will be gladly to help you and even show you the way. But in Korea, I'm sure they will help you but majority of the time, they tend to just walk away.
Koreans love to showoff even if its is a fake Gucci or real, they love to show off. As you might have heard, Koreans are very superficial. Not the case in Japan. I'm sure some Japanese people do show off but not to the extent like Koreans showing off.
Also Japanese girls at clubs are more open minded than Korean girls
Has anyone also noticed any other differences while in Japan?

Koreans will compare to Japan just for their own ego boosts, but actually, theres alot of differences. Ive lived in both and still go back to Japan a few times a year. Theyre both part of my life.
The main point is geography and size. Japan is an island, a big one. Korea is not. Korea was a dictatorship (and still is in all but law, but its getting better , s-l-o-w-l-y). Japan has been wealthy for a very long time, Korea more recently. Japan has alot of resources, Korea much less. Right or wrong, this is the modern history..Korea has had many wars on its land, one big one. Japan has not (even the atom bomb could be said to just affect two cities, although alot of cities got bombed, Nagoya for one).
Japan has had a modern capitalism system since the war, but even during meiji, there were alot of people there, doing business.
Embracing capitalism personally meaning alot of freedom, Koreas just getting into this.
China has the Cultural Revolution to get rid of their Confucianism (still havent though), Japan had capitalism and its samurai warlords. Korea has only had its pwer struggle and dictatorships.
Japan even had a Hippie movement in the 60s-70's, very cool actually. Great music.
Anyway..
So all of that reflects on the people and their way of life. |

I understand history might play a part of their behavior and thinking. Gotta adjust to it!
Where abouts in Japan do you go back and forth to? |

Just like to add, the generation we are teaching now (basically anyone born after 1990) is probably the first generation to not see the poverty that past generations of Koreans have. And Korea was pretty poor not that long ago. |

I go to fukuoka, hiroshima are mostly, tokyo every year or two. Im a big shopper in Japan, as well. They have great textiles.
Another big thing is Japan is a consumer society, Korea I feel is much less, they have to export everything, even their music, Japan can consume alot of its on stuff and be ok, Korea not so much.
Japanese are mostly cool with Japanese society, and a big part of this is their lack of a judeo christian morality, and gives alot of freedom actually. |

Sounds like you have a grudge against Koreans. It's all about perspective.
Road system. Probably a product of population and lifestyle. Rush rush rush. I'd like to see comparative stats on accidents/fatalities in that area.
Bump into you? Let's all get where we're trying to go and stop worrying about "oh that person touched me! i need my 3 feet of personal space!"
Eyes prowling? Not sure what you look like, but foreigners get stared at a lot. Especially the good looking and the fatties. We always remember the time something happens, but rarely the many times when nothing happens.
I've been helped many times by Koreans. No one just walks away unless i'm not being clear with what i want, or i approach the wrong kind of korean (the older the harder) |

So... it's my "perspective" when I see people running red lights - and almost running me down in the process? Is that my "perspective" then, and not really reality??

I've been bumped, pushed, and even grabbed. This is NOT about 3 feet of personal space - this is about far more than that. Quit trying to twist and minimize what people are saying.

Right. And some people don't enjoy being stared at. I see noting wrong with that. Ask any Korean if they'd enjoy being stared at, and other than some drama seekers, most would say no. It'd not odd at all.

I agree with this. I've been helped a lot here by strangers. Also got helped in Tokyo, NYC, and various other places I've visited. I'm always impressed by how nice people generally are. |

I have many good experiences with Koreans. I'm definitely sure there are some aspects that are better than the Japanese or any other country.
Just my experiences & I'm sure others may have experienced similar situations as mine. |

Japanese will lie behind your back while Koreans will lie to your face and speak in Korean to each other assuming no "foreigner" will understand. |

Japan does rock but you will find unhappy eslers in Japan wistfully banging on about how teachers in Korea save more money, find it easier to get jobs and a night out on the booze is cheaper....
Grass is always greener innit. |

There are more than enough gaijin videos on the net that says: sooner or later, all that charmed you about Japan, suffocates you. |
