Does anybody know how much value you can declare on a package before you are going to get issues with customs?

Thanks

Good thread, especially as the holidays are approaching.

Although a yank by birth I have a lot of English family, and they usually send a hamper around Christmas time from a major London chain. Of course, I work in Seoul.

Are gift baskets and the like subject to import taxes as well? I imagine they are, just wanted to ask! Many thanks

anything with a value, whether it be a gift or not. if your mom purchased a bag of air for you as a gift that cost 150,000 won, you will get charged customs fees for it.

Unless...when they fill out the form they put a total monetary value that is less than the allotted amount My family just sent me several birthday gifts last week. They already knew from previous years how this all works.

In America, if you mail items using the POSTAl service boxes they rush them straight through Korean customs, no checking or nothing.

I'll be receiving a lot of boxes for Christmas as well. But the family always put value at $99.99 regardless of what's in the box. 5-7 days later, I receive my loot without any hassles, whatsoever.

For those who will be having packages mailed from America, tell your folks/friends to used the US post international boxes* and it'll save CASH and TIME.

* won't work if the items are odd -size.sorry!

105,000 is the limit.

It isn't per box, but per week, which is why you have to give your ARC when you order stuff online. If you have 2 boxes come in to close together they will tax you even if they are both under the limit individually.

I had two boxes arrive on the same day from different vendors for a total of about US$170 without a customs charge.

I also question the 105,000 since you can order up to $105 from iHerb, which is more that 105,00won.

The limit is $150 per 24 hour period at the customs checking station.
I have never gotten away with multiple orders coming through that exceeded the $150 without paying customs...glad to hear you did. Wink
That being said, I have received multiple packages to my home on the same day...but due to one teckbay company being faster than the other after customs.

150,000 is the limit, but I've been fine with slightly more.

I've never had to give my ARC when I order online, and I order regularly.

One package I received was without tracking so it could have come in on a different day. I just know I received them on the same day.
