It seems it might well be. This from Gusts of Popular Feeling. http://populargusts.blogspot.kr/2013/11/an-interesting-development-regarding.html
Still, I don't see the more ignorant / xenophobic parents letting this go without a fight. I can see pressure mounting for individual schools to still demand an HIV check. And those AES clowns are going to have an aneurism.
Guess we'll just have to wait and see what happens. |

Maybe it's just being dropped for renewing teachers because HIV and drugs do not exist in Korea |

| I don't blame the Koreans for checking on stuff like that. |

Neither do I.
What I object to is other more important stuff. Like the lack of fair police treatment of foreigners. |

Agreed. It's a disease with no cure that can be transmitted without the other person knowing. Yeah, it's only by sex (or drugs), but unless you're a nun, you're at risk. I didn't mind the test and looked at it as "hey, sweet, I don't have aids!" |

The problem is, IIRC, that South Korea is a signatory to a UN treaty or concordance or whatever saying that HIV testing should be banned due to leading to discrimination. So SK's been violating that for a while.
My question is whether the dropping of the HIV and drug testing is for new recruits or just rehires, anyone know? |

A lot of countries don't exactly follow UN treaties they have signed.
I don't have an issue doing the AIDS test. I'm not a citizen and Korea has every right to ban any non-citizen from entering. |
