Oh well, get over the ching chong changs, because you will everyday hear within ear shot someone--old or young saying "sha-lang, sha-lang" when you are speaking English which are the sounds Koreans use to imitate English--exactly the same as ching chong chang.
Screw them and their double standard bs. |
So because they use that type of language, we are justified in doing so. And because we use that language, they are justified in so doing.
An eye for an eye makes the whole world blind. |

No, what it means is Korea has no room to talk or be offended because they are guilty of the same thing to a much greater degree. And they are more open about it, so many students can be heard saying it as well as strangers--even my M-I-L does it. Just a rude culture to outsiders. |

| Face it, the Korean Wave is taking over the world. GG are bigger than Bieber, Lady Gaga etc., and PSY is bigger than The Beatles, Michael Jackson and Elvis. Korean music rules the world |

| errrr ... two of them are actually Korean-American, and speak pretty fluent English. Jessica was born in the US and lived there until she was 11, and Tiffany was also born in the US and lived there until she was 15. |
I feel embarassed by the fact that you know the names of the members of a Korean pop group. Is Tiffany your favorite? |

Joking about how a language sounds is not especially harsh. An eye for an eye might make the whole world blind, but a ching-chang for a shwala-shwala just makes it smirk. |

Do Koreans really use that sound to imitate English? I find that really funny, and I wish I knew that when I was there. Is this a common thing? |

Yes, they really do use it to imitate English. I first saw it in some web comic (달마과장, which is great practice for reading colloquial Korean, and actually pretty funny sometimes) to indicate a foreigner speaking English and the Korean not understanding him, and evidently it's about as common as ching-chang-chong would be in the western consciousness.
When I hear shwala-shwala, I feel absolutely no offense. I actually think it's a bit funny, albeit bizarre given I can't see how anyone could feel English sounds that way. |

I just asked my wife and she said it was more like the Korean equivalent to blah blah blah, not English in specific. I will have to look out for this, because it does seem really funny. |

Could Alabama have won 2 national championships without the BCS balls-up? |
Alabama won it on the field, completely annihilating two undefeated #1 teams by a combined score of 63-14. If the BCS National Championship had been determined by internet votes, Seoul National University would have definitely crushed Bama for the BCS college football championship. |

Here are Youtube Video of the Year votes (top 5)
Girls' Generation: 3,375,069
Demi Lovato: 308,962
Lady Gaga: 303, 238
One Direction: 155, 641
Justin Bieber: 113, 666
The voting results show that Girls' Generation got 3 million votes more than Demi Lovato and Lady Gaga Am I the only one who sees the possibility of 'devious manipulation of voting? Do Girls' Generation really have much more fanatic fans than those real international artists? If they really have so many fanatic fans all over the world, then how come their US debut album sold only about 2,000 copies to date? It's known that fanatic fans usually rush to buy multiple copies for their idol, but their album only sold a little over 1,000 copies in a first week. I know promoting K-pop has been a part of Korea's big effort to land Korea in people's consciousness through branding. I think the insane amounts of hits on YouTube is just a part and parcel of their effort to promote their country. Koreans have this intense desire to market their culture abroad. Nothing wrong with that. But sometimes they tries way to damn hard. |

Because the US is not the world. China, Japan, Philippines, Taiwan, Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia, and so on are the center of the Kpop market. That's a big chunk of people.
Now that being said, that doesn't speak to the quality of their music or the fact that their fans may be uber-obsessive.
As this poster said-
The girls generation victory also showed that the "world" doesn't care as much about Miley Cyrus, Justin Bieber, Lady Gaga and One Direction as those in the west would like to believe.
Kind of puts a reverse twist on the old argument that KPop isn't really as popular as Koreans believe. Turns out that western music isn't really as popular as those in the west believe. |

Isn't it more like sho-la, sho-la? Also there's momomo.
Neither of those are for English only, it's for when they don't understand what was said or more like when say blablabla, when someone isn't saying something important
**edit** ah, crap, Leon said that. I didn't see that. |

| I've only seen it used with English, which is why I drew (or leaped to, evidently) the conclusion I did. Thanks for the information fellows. |
