Dude, what's wrong with wearing glasses? If you really think there is something "wrong" with that or that that is cause to mock someone, then you are really a pathetic little man.

Sure thing, Poindexter.... Laughing

Funny list anyhow, Jodami.

Haven't been in Japan but my buddy has been there for a few years and bitches about the same stuff that you guys do about Korea. Old men farting on subways there and smell like shit from their full-retard nights of drinking.
He complains about how boring Japanese people are. He complains how it's so annoying to live in a society that has so many damn social rules. He also complains about people staring at him (he lives in Tokyo and he's not a fat/ugly dude), he complains that his GF gets touched by dudes on the train and that it's culturally accepted apparently. Someone did a drive-by jizz on his GF's skirt while she was sitting on the train. My friend also talks about how the other foreigners in Japan suck and that they are usually really wierd/cliquey. He once said "Hello" to an another random foreigner on a train because he wanted to start a simple conversation/small talk, guess how the other foreigner responded........ "Why?". Laughing Laughing Laughing

The glasses thing is funny, I've always wondered about that, if Koreans claim to be a superior race, why are their eyes so weak? And they hate Japan so much, but the Japanese appear for the most part to be physically stronger than Koreans, going by MMA fighters and such.

Anyway, pointless thread, Japan is miles ahead of Korea in almost every regard, which is why they copy everything Japanese all the time, from music to food to technology to cars to fashion - you really can't compare the two countries, one has joined the civilized world, the other, well, stuck in some weird racist xenophobic time warp.

Perhaps he's mocking the fact that a disproportionate number of people wear glasses (whether they need to or not). Seriously, how can so many children's eyes be so bad that they need glasses?

Look up suspected causes of myopia. Usually has to do with the amount of reading and fine motor activity a child does.

As a parent, personally I'd much rather have my child read a lot of books and require corrective lenses than not read a lot of books and not require corrective lenses.

Frankly anyone who would think otherwise is exhibiting the type of mentality that is holding our species back. They are being superficial, anti-intellectual, and ironically, short-sighted.

True dat. Highest rate of internet use on the planet...but they're all playing games and watching their shows and music vids. Not many reading. And let's not forget the fashion 'copycat' thing. Their favorite K-pop star wears glasses for a look, so kids pressure their parents for glasses. How else can one explain the ridiculously over-sized glasses, and frames without any lenses. Glasses does not equate lots of reading.

So Steelrails is basically telling us that it is not a genetic flaw, but because Koreans read a lot that they wear glasses. I guess that also explains why they are not good at sports in general, too - so that's another mystery solved.

Steelrails might be on to something:
http://healthland.time.com/2012/05/07/why-up-to-90-of-asian-schoolchildren-are-nearsighted/

The article doesn't compare the rate of near-sightedness in different countries, but it seems it is common throughout Asia.

Korean kids do seem to read a bunch whether they want to or not. You ever seen the inside of a Korean kids house? Bookcases filled with books.

I often notice some people who misunderstand about Japanese culture and your friend is one of them. In Japan, a man who gropes a woman in public is called chikan and chikan is, of course, a crime. It's wrong to claim that such a crime is culturally accepted in Japan. Overall Japan is a pretty safe country compared to other places in the world, especially when you consider Japan's population, you'd expect much more crime.

Actually, based on medal counts at the Olympics, they do quite well at sports.

Still, I don't see why wearing glasses is such a big deal, nor why its a source of derision. Do you actually evaluate and judge people based on whether or not they wear glasses? Are you that immature and juvenile?

I think the main difference between Japan and Korea is the financial past and present of each country.
Japan has always been richer, more progressive, and more open to exploring outside their own borders.
Korea has always been poorer, old fashioned, and distrustful of outsiders.
This lead to Japan experiencing a high standard of living while Koreans were still, literally, standing in their own feces. Today Koreans are experiencing wealth for the first time which has lead to behavior, and the trappings that money comes with, that could be classed as "nouveau rich".

Not exactly, but for sure since 1870-ish.

Yep, Markness. Must agree.
Japanese sure can be boring, partly because they take everything so seriously. In fact I prefer interacting with them when I am drinking or drunk, since they are easier to deal with.
That is why I prefer Japanese comedy on TV, since people are actually smiling. Day to day in Tokyo, look at the expressions on people`s faces.
Mostly frowns and scornful looks.

Lots of social rules here. In fact it feels like living in Tokyo is like living in the military, because there is such a hierarchy. It is not surprising that this country was fascist, due to all the conformity and always following sempai`s lead.

But actually there is more keigo in Korean than Japanese.

Lots of foreigners who are just here for the money, just mercenaries, but they lie and say they are interested in some aspect of Japanese culture. Lots of social misfits who can`t fit in to their culture, but the British and Canadians have given up on their countries and actually think life in Japan is better.

Lots of cliques here. Americans who prefer to talk to people from their own state, especially west coast people.
