Has anyone ever had a tonsillectomy in Korea? I'm thinking about getting one since I continue to develop tonsillitis every other month. Tell me how the surgery went or anything I should be worried about if I go through with it here. Thank you.

How about the pain? The doctor told me that since I have large tonsils that the pain was going to be pretty bad.

it wasn't fun i'm not going to lie. but i've also experienced worse pain so there's that.

i can tell you this much, having tonsillitis every other week is way worse than the pain from a tonsillectomy.

I had mine taken out at Seoul Nat'l Uni Hospital Boramae. Cost was about 300k for everything. The doctors can speak English and I did a shared room with 3 other people. It wasn't too bad, but definitely helps to have someone that speaks Korean fluently help with stuff. After the surgery, you won't really be able to talk. Also keep your head propped up as high as you can, helps with breathing and such. Pain wise it sucked the first few days. The meds are pretty vile, i found mixing it into yogurt and smoothies helped it taste a bit better and go down easier. As far as what to eat, really soft and cool stuff is the way to go. Overall I was out for about 2 weeks. Could probably go back to desk warming after a week, but I had the days and nothing to do so why not. Also I didn't have any complications to speak of.

Wow, sounds like it's just going to suck. Luckily my wife will be able to take care of me after surgery and I'll probably just quit my job and take a month off from work and just look for another job afterwards.

I would be interested in what your experience is as well, so please let me know. I've also been thinking about getting one. I live in Gwangju. Cheers!

I had a tonsillectomy about 6 years ago in Jinju at the University Hospital. I think with my insurance it cost me 900,000, which included a week stay in the hospital after surgery. It was another 2 weeks of rest at home before I was really up and about and ready to go again.

The surgery and hospital was first class. No complaints at all. The pain was excruciating. My doctor told me it wouldn't be much, but it was the worst thing I've ever experienced. Maybe I'm a wuss. Everyone seems to handle the pain a bit differently, and it's much harder for adults than kids.

But so glad I did it. My quality of life has been so much better since. I had VERY LARGE tonsils always prone to infections. No sleep apnea or snoring since having them removed (which is the most fantastic thing!), and no more throat infections.

That was what I was worried about. I had one wisdom tooth pulled and I had never experienced that amount of pain in my life. I've even broken my arm and had my appendix removed, but that one tooth removal was the absolute worst. Of course the Doc didn't perscribe me any pain pills, so I was only using Ibuprofen. I'm hoping this pain isn't like the wisdom tooh one...
