Hello all. I'm new to Korea. Just got to Bundang and while it is a very nice town, I'm looking for stuff to do here. Are there any bars or nightclubs that are good to go to on the weekends in Bundang? If not, how about any recommendations where to go in Seoul?
Also, I'm looking to make friends so if anyone is interested in going out for a drink and maybe showing me around a bit, I would appreciate it.
Thanks! |

You're very lucky, my friend -- assuming you are a guy. The areas surrounding all the subway stations between Seohyeon and Ori are absolutely crawling with gorgeous women. Really.
If I can convince my wife that a night out will save me from insanity (maybe I'll mention "the hat" -- see this thread: http://www.eslcafe.com/forums/korea/viewtopic.php?t=20669 -- as the cause), I could show you around.
Any other Bundangers up for a night of drunken debauchery?

Where exactly do you live in Bundang? There are 6 main areas where teachers generally live. Ori, Migeum, Jeongja, Sunae, Seohyun and Yatap. All subway stops too, incidentally.
Bundang doesn't have much of a nightlife for foreigners or any particularly "hangout". In Samsung Plaza (Seohyun station) you'll often find a bunch of foreigners in some of the bars there. But there are tons of bars there. Biggest nightclub is OzOz which I think just changed its name to Rose Tatoo, but its Korean style and expensive. Even though they have no problem with letting foreigners in.
Most people just go into Seoul on the weekends because its so close and the transportation system is excellent. Cheap buses and inexpensive taxi if you can share. Roughly 25-30k for Hongdae, 15-20k for Itaewon and 10-15k for Gangnam.
There are a bunch of other threads on Bundang if you do a search. |

Samsung Plaza is a nice place to look around and meet people. |

I'm not a Bundanger (yet), but I, unlike those lazy Seoulites, am willing to travel to new places and explore strange new worlds. Just as long as it's after May 26th. |

I asked my high school students where the best nightclub in Bundang was. They said, "OzOz."
I told our college interns that, and they laughed. They said it's only greasy older korean guys who can't get a date.
They suggested going to Gangnam. |

Not that I've noticed.
You can't even order Pizza in Bundang after 10:30pm. It's a dead-zone at night. |

I got a taxi from Itaewon to Jeongja dong for 12,000 won the other weekend...make sure driver goes over banpo bridge and on the expressway, saves about 8,000 won from going the arse way around near Jamsil. Bundang was an exceptionally boring place. Get a few lads and have some beers by the river, on a warm night can be quite nice. |

That is where I went when I lived in Bundang, which was then Pundang. Kangnam is only 20 minutes away. |

I live in Bundang. There are a lot of places to drink but they are mostly pretty dead. I'm usually willing to go drinking though! |

***EDIT***
Thanks for the replies. So there ARE other teachers here! I was beginning to wonder! haha!
JackSarang I live across the river from Jeongja Station in the old part of town in a little basement studio which I have lovingly nicknamed the "Dungeon"
Coulter, Sparkles, Zyzyfer or anyone else who wants to get together and show a newbie around send me a private message!
Also, if anyone has any names of happening nightclubs where other english speakers hang out in Seoul and which station to get off please list them or PM me with them. It would be appreciated. |

There are tons of teachers living in that same area as you. Its where all the schools in the area stick their teachers. What school do you work at, anyway?
If you don't know your buses yet: If you go to the set of lights where there's a Lespo Bikes on the corner and cross the street you'll see a bus stop. The buses come roughly every 10-15 mins. The 6006 will take you to Gangnam the fastest from there since it only makes 2 more stops before hitting the highway. The 9000 will take you to Hannam-dong (next to Itaewon, 15 min walk from bus stop), Myeong-dong and Jongro. |
