This is what happens when you pretend "Gender Studies" is a respectable academic pursuit. |

It's also what happens when you get your info about gender from a "social justice comedian." The author of that article: http://itspronouncedmetrosexual.com/about-sam/ |

Right!~~I mean I still also wonder why people take rape and sex/ gender-based discrimination seriously~~
I'd respect an engineer making social policies than any of those fools out there taking social studies and other such meaningless pursuits seriously.
(Two months in Korea and already a bit worried about the lot of teachers in this country. But I guess it could be the type using Dave's~~weird)
So you're thinking that we shouldn't take this gender idea seriously?
I got my education on gender for Asst. Professor Sarah S. Richardson. She's pretty funny, but I wouldn't call her a comedian. |

Yes, in no small part because people such as yourself attempt to leverage rape (a serious crime) to push their completely unrelated gender-neurosis ideologies on society. The implication that someone does not take rape seriously if they don't accept your (and I use the word "your" loosely here, given you're clearly just parroting things you were taught to believe) pseudo-intellectual garbage is both completely unreasonable and completely emblematic of the "academic" discipline in question. |

Say all that to the trans-sexual who was raped in Itaewon several years ago and her rapist got off with sexual assault (not rape) because pseudo-intellectual garbage took a backseat.
Guess it's not so "unreasonable and completely emblematic of the 'academic' discipline in question."
Like I said, there's nothing wrong with ignorance but when you confound it with brash judgement, it just comes off as stupid no matter how much jargon you employ.
Apparently all the idiots investing money and effort into these gender-neurosis ideologies are just a bunch of knuckleheads who should be sitting in your class learning something worthwhile.
Just in case you don't get it: gender, sex, and social organization matter. I used an extreme to make my point, which is, that you should think before you write--a point you've adequately shown you're deficient at doing.

Post. It was one reason the country began to recognize man to woman transsexuals as women, otherwise they would have had to recognize man on man rape, which they didn't at the time. |

Yeah, at the moment it is classified as a 'prank' |

Men can rape men, and recognizing that simply fact does not require embracing the broader system of beliefs and ideals into which you have been indoctrinated. In short, some court being inane does not mean I have to tolerate your inanity.

When your counter-argument is of the form, "But this one time in Itaewon..." you really have no room for snark.

You may be fine with your own ignorance, but you cannot demand the same of me.

Yes, despite jargon like "gender queer," "cis-gendered," and the like, gender studies and it's practitioners come off as incredibly stupid. You need to realize that this is not your classroom discussion section any longer; the fundamental ideology which went entirely unchallenged throughout your entire "education" is no longer a given.

Probably.

Perhaps, but not in any way you'd understand it. I am not going to sit here and pay you on the back for having swallowed a load of crap straight from the bull. You can poutily reassure yourself that the link you posted was important and full of intellectual value if you like, but you are not going to insult your way to affirmation here. |

I'm all for people being whatever they want to be, doesn't bother me at all.
But, then you have situations like Renee Richards, or whoever it was, who was a guy who sucked at men's tennis, became a woman, then began destroying the ladies in competition. That's not good for anyone. |

Men raping men was only recognized by law in Korea this year (March). And, yes, it took "...embracing the broader system of beliefs and ideals into which..." societies (especially Western ones) have been indoctrinated.
If you look up the Itaewon case in Law (로앤비: www.lawnb.com) you'll find the ruling and the location--Itaewon.
Oh angry woman full of grace, the ignorance be with you and set you free from the encumbers of a bra several sizes too small.
Accept that you're wrong and move on. (The site is an easy guide, like Gender for Dummies. I'm sure you can appreciate it. It dumbed it down for the uneducated who may live in a perpetual state of denial--you know the ones who resort to a lexicon of arcane terminology to hammer their often silly and simple points to no effect.) |

I didn't say societies, I said you. For God's sake, I even put the pronoun in question in bold. Western society has its problems, but fortunately, it's not (yet) as broadly screwed up as the rubbish you linked earlier in this thread.

That's your rebuttal to me taking issue with the invalidity of gender studies as an academic discipline? "Nuh uh?" It's one thing to be opinionated to the degree that you throw around random insults. It's quite another to be so inept at argument that this is the best you can do while attempting to defend your ideology from a reasonably casual attack.

Okay, I don't think things are going to go any further with gender studies girl here, so I broke this one off from the rest of the post because it's a bit of a side issue and not something I need an answer from her regarding. This is not the first time I've heard people complain of "big words" (or in the case of this poster, "arcane terminology") when referring to my post. I feel like the vocabulary I employ in my posts consists of fairly basic, common-use words (except the word "cis-gendered," which I admit is nonstandard, but it's a nonstandard word from the field of "study" she's defending, used pointedly and to mock). Honest question here: is the vocabulary I use in my posts really that impenetrable and obscure? Is the occasional complaint in this regard fair, or are the people who complain in this fashion just woefully ill-educated? |

Are you seriously arguing that my beliefs and ideals about gender are apart from those of society?
Been living on the periphery of Korean society a bit longer than I suspected.
Get real, lady.
Your vocab: not impenetrable or obscure. Step down from the podium and think of some more fitting adjectives. |
