Hello -

I am a very experienced English teaching currently teaching at a primary school in Bhutan. I am looking for a teaching position on Jeju Island starting in Jan - Mar 2014. I have been looking at many sites, but I'm not having any luck.

Any ideas?

Thanks!

Kyle

There are two International school on Jeju if you are a licensed primary school teacher:
Korea International School Jeju
Branksome Hall
I looked into them a bit and they seem to be in an isolated place far from the city with poor housing (just from my initial perusing). But isolated is a relative term, especially if you are coming from Bhutan.
Really jealous, always wanted to visit Bhutan.

How would I go about applying there? I've heard it's quite difficult to get work in a university unless you are in Korea.

Thanks!

Kyle

I don't think I can work at an international school because I have no license. Any other places you know that I should try?

I teach in a volunteer program called the Bhutan Canada Foundation. They hire teachers every year if you're interested. Wink

Take care -

I like your idea of determining where exactly you'd like to live & work before taking the leap. I did the same back when & it paid off with both instant & longterm satisfaction.

Know yourself (it sounds like you do). Only you know what circumstances might best suit you. I like islands & end-of-the-road places & prefer towns to cities. I'm a nature junkie. I'm drawn to tourist towns because if its a place people like to visit, why not just live there?

My shortlist was Sokcho or Seogwipo. Took a while & some perseverance but a job finally presented itself (substandard compared to other regions) & I jumped at it. That led to better opportunities & its been a good run since.

Sorry, no specific advice, but Jejudo is sizable with lots of school & academy jobs. I have yet to visit but I'm sure it has its charms. Stick to your hunch & best luck.

Thanks for the advice. I think I have an offer now. I am just trying to get my paperwork together. Hope it works out!
