For those who went from E-2 to an F-2, was it worth it? Was it doable?
I will be here for 5 years straight (without leaving Korea) as of March 2015. My Korean is now level 2 but I will likely be at level 3 or 4 by that time.
It seems that I can get the F-2 99 as of March 2015 because of my time here and language ability.
I want it to have more freedome with my jobs and to not have to worry about so much annoying paper work at immigration. I want to study Korean language full time, teach part time here and there and take correspondance classes throug an online University. The F-2 seems to offer me the freedome that I want.
My current job is great, but it can sometimes be a drag to be tied to your employer.

Come Feb 2015 the Korean government it thinking about introducing a new system to F-2 VISAS.
To get to the top tier and (almost) be treated as a pure blood Korean
you must complete the following ritual:

to purge your body of non-Korean blood, and then dive into the Han River to cleanse your body - you will then (assuming you don’t get any infections from the water) be granted a F-2 VISA with a shiny gold star in the corner. |

True it would, but you could also get a Student Visa and study full time and work part time. So you at least have a backup option. Also March 2015 is a long way off and many immigration policies could/will change. |

I had heard of many people who were here for 5 years, but were denied. I think the government puts it out there to make themselves look good, but they don't really try to implement it. A rare few have done it, but most are blocked by the bureacracy. I think I read Ttompatz mentioned he went for it but they shut him down. Don't bet the family farm on getting one. You'd be better off marrying a nice girl you can take home to mom. |

What about just the F-2 point visa? If your Korean is good, you can pass the Topik with a good score. That is definitely doable. |
