I feel like I've asked about this before, but I looked through my previous posts and couldn't find anything about it.

Anyway, here's a problem I'm sure I'm not the first to encounter. I've returned home to the states after four years teaching in Korea and I'm finding it hard to get a job because all my past employers for the past four years are in Korea, so none of my potential future employers can contact them. They're damn sure not gonna CALL anyone in Korea and I don't have anyone's email address and even if I did, my Korean employers spoke broken English at best and might not be comfortable going back and forth with anyone they've never met. I DO have letters of recommendation, but I'm not sure that's enough, especially since they don't leave me with anything to put on an application where it asks for my references. A lot of them don't really give you a place to write "I don't really have any contact information for any past employers, but I've got some letters of recommendation. Is that okay?"

So what do you do in this situation? Like I said, I can't be the first person to have faced this problem. What have any of you done about it?

Thanks, everyone.

Why not scan your letters or photo copy them and attach them to your resume?

That's not a bad idea. I've already scanned the letters; I should just start attaching them, rather than wait to be asked. Even with the online applications, they usually give you a place to attach things like that. I just hope it's enough. Some places may insist on being able to talk to someone.

Thank you.

I had a similar problem. I just lied and put Joseph Park and a random korean number. I figured the job wouldnt call. Ended up working out for me. You could also list a friend in Korea. This would only work if the job is completely non-ESL related.
