|
|
Hey boxing fans, Pac-man is fighting again, possibly for the last time if he fares poorly, Sunday morning in Macau against Brandon Rios. Of course, it'll be a pay-per-view event and I doubt the Korean TV stations will carry it but there's always My P2P and stuff.
I'm thinking Pac-man will win before the fight goes 12 rounds. |

I've been a huge pacquiao fan since his wars with Morales, Barrera, and Marquez.
Pacquiao has been the most entertaining boxer of the decade, and kept boxing alive when Floyd went into his retirement and even when Floyd came back but only fought once a year.
Pacquiao's fights have been some of the most entertaining fights because he brings it every fight. He doesn't play it "safe" all the time. He is willing to take risks to land a punch, to make a fight, and bring the action for the fans as he always says in his post-fight interviews. In his prime, I personally believe he had the tools to beat someone like Mayweather. Of course, it's only speculation and nobody can say that Floyd would beat Pacman or Pacman would beat Floyd, but we can speculate. Tyson and Holyfield have all agreed that the one thing about Pacquiao is he is always willing to fight anyone. That's what champs do. Being a small guy, he's really no more than a lightweight at most, he constantly fought bigger and stronger competition (regardless of what you might think of catchweights, that's irrelevant since every fight is almost a catchweight for someone). Bottomline is, he took big risks, and got big rewards. Hence his 10 world titles, 8 titles in 8 weight classes, something nobody in boxing history has done.
In the Pacquiao-Marquez fight 4, Pacquiao was actually winning the fight after 2 rounds handily. Then he got KD'd for the first time in like 12 years when he fell to the canvas. After that, he came back and pretty much dominated rounds 4, 5, and 6, KDing Marquez and brutalizing him with a broken nose and concussion. But Pacquiao let his guard down and got sloppy at the find 10 seconds of round 6 and Marquez landed a very rare "perfect" punch. Once a boxer suffers a major KO like that, I'm not ever sure they can fully recover. Usually, they go on to getting KD'ed or KO'd again, because I think the brain becomes less able to absorb similar blows. Pacquiao has been hit by big shots from bigger men all the time, but never ever came close to getting floored. But now with that huge KO that he went threw, I'm not anxious because I don't know if Pacquiao can beat Rios. Everyone knows Pacquiao can beat Rios and is about 2-3x better boxer than Rios. The problem and suspense really is, how well can Pacquiao take a punch again? There's a chance that Rios could land a big shot that normally wouldn't floor the the 10 time champ, but nobody knows now what he can or can't take. That's the real suspense to me of this fight. As long as Pacquiao doesn't get KO'd (most likely end his career then), he'll easily dominate and destroy Rios like he did Margarito. Rios is big and tough, but ain't that mobile and fast. One thing for sure about Rios is he's a warrior. He won't back down and he'll bring a brawl to Pacquiao (which is what Pac loves), but can he take punches like before?
We shall soon see. |

Rios is basically a smaller version of Margarito. Pacquiao should easily rearrange his face.
Some of you may not know this but a Korean fighter was also supposed fight on that card but pulled out for a mess of reasons. |

Are you talking about the Korean-Chinese boxer Ik Yang aka Yang Lian Hui? |

Mayweather said that he suspected Pac Man of being a blood doper. He said the only way he'd fight him is if he agreed to take a blood test. |

No, Kim Minwook. He was supposed to be Pacquiao's sparring partner too. |

Well, Yang is on the undercard of the Pac-man fight and lives in Anyang, Korea. Hmm... |

Yep, Yang is getting a bit of press as he has nine KOs on his 13-0 record.
As for Pac-man, well, he's in a bind. Unless he KO's Rios in the first round, everyone will say meh if he wins in a decision or so considering that Rios is hardly a giant in the welterweight division (though no pushover, either) and of course, should Pac-man lose, that could signal the end of an era.
Another thing I'm sick of is how fighters can take so darn long between bouts. I'm glad Floyd Mayweather, Jr. signed that contract with Showtime because that means he'll fight at least twice a year (and hopefully someone worth fighting). |

A fight isn't made because two guys decide to fight eachother. There's a myriad of things to be worked out for a fight to be set up. Even four-round nobodies like me take forever to get fights and there's always the danger of something going wrong and it getting canceled. With mega fights like these, it's even harder. |

Yeah, but come on, layoffs of more than six months?
The worst part is, boxing is business first, sport second. Too many guys ducking promising fighters like Gennady Golovkin and such. I remember before his crippling accident that middleweight Paul Williams was the most avoided boxer on the planet, and yes, I saw Sergio Martinez KO Williams in the KO of the year. |

And Pac-man wins a unanimous decision against the hapless Rios. I think Rios looked as if he wanted that one punch to KO or hurt Pac-man as happened in Pac-man's last fight, but the chance never came.
Congrats on the return of Pac-man! |

Except for a stoppage it went pretty much how I expected. Actually I was surprised at how much clinching and infighting Pacquiao did compared to his other fights. Stepping in with Rios to smother his punches and clinching. It's a testament to Rios' tenacity but other than that he had nothing. Fluid combinations, timing, feints, and constant offensive angles from Pac. I just wish he was more aggressive in the later rounds. |
