My payday is tomorrow (Saturday) so I presumed that I would get paid today/tonight. But it didn't happen. So I asked my boss about it. and to please pay me. He comes to me and says, "I'll pay you next week.!"I said, No, please pay me today." He went about his way, and later noticed that I was "still" in the teacher's room waiting for payment confirmation. He became agitated and said, "Korean teachers would have said okay and went home. You make big trouble for me." I just arrived home. I checked my contract and it doesn't say anything about getting paid late/early if payday falls on a weekend.
To make a long story short, I got paid, but he added," I nice boss, teacher, next time, I pay on REAL pay day."
If even one person tells me I was wrong to ask about my pay, I will go in on Monday and bow five times to him and beg his forgiveness for asking to get paid EARLY! |

That's pretty common around the world when a payday falls on a weekend, can't believe that instead of waiting 2 days you acted like a baby and have made yourself look bad |

First payday? First one that was on a weekend? Have other payments been late? Are payments usually in cash or direct deposit?
Frequently, weekend payments are made on Friday, but that could vary depending upon the workplace--especially if payments are made by direct deposit.
You presumed that you would get paid on Friday, but why didn't you ask about it on Monday or Tuesday--that way you'd know what to expect and wouldn't have to presume anything.
It's entirely possible that the director had everything sorted and will pay everybody on Monday and you pitched a fit over nothing and lost a bit of face over it in the director's view. It's also possible that the director is a snake and is just looking for ways to delay or avoid payment.Even if that's the case, you still didn't go about it the best way. |

Every teacher gets paid on a different day of the month! No two teachers get paid on the same day!
and you pitched a fit over nothing and lost a bit of face over it in the director's view
Nah... I think he was trying to get one over on me. My face is still in tact.
He said he forgot. This man is a genius, almost photographic memory.
. It's also possible that the director is a snake
^^.In my gut, I know this is true(too much info to list here) to the core. I just hate owning up to it
I love the school/students/salary/ private classroom/ huge apartment/neighborhood/everyone is so kind to me
and is just looking for ways to delay or avoid payment.Even if that's the case, you still didn't go about it the best way.[/quote]
I worked at this school a long time ago for several years. I left, worked a few other places, private/pubic, and came back. My boss/school has changed considerably. Specifically, 130 less students! Before I came back, he said the situation is" a little different than before, "but he didn't go in to detail.
The three last pays have been paid but a little chipped off here and there.
My salary is high, but last month, he mentioned financial difficulty and maybe selling the school.
Yesterday, I saw three business men examining every inch of the place.
Today, I saw two of the same, with calculator, notepad, drawing stretch.
To be fair, we (boss and I) used to be good friends. But now, there is a lot of secrecy going on. I didn't want to get there on Monday and find that the
school was now a supermarket.( I have seen this happen)
Now that I've aired my concern, and read the comments, I will go in on Monday and bow five times at his feet (That's his requirement for transgressions) and asked him to forgive me for not trusting him.
He will be tickled pink because foreigners usually refuse to do this. |

You acted pretty childish. You said you've worked at this place for several years in the past etc...is this the first time you've ever had a payday fall on a weekend? Was it such a life or death matter that you couldn't wait 48 hours?
If you had waited, and Monday had came around and he tried to put off paying you then I'd say you'd have reason to be concerned....but because he didn't pay you (technically) early...yeah you went about it completely wrong.
You need to pick your battles. |

Yes! I promised a friend I would send her $2500 in the morning(Western Union)to save her house and also I'm having 33 people over for Thanksgiving Dinner Celebration this weekend. I needed my cash or I would have waited. He said he would pay me on Tuesday. This defied logic.
Of course, I have money in savings ( I save 50% of my yearly salary. I save 100% pay one month/ spend whole salary next month)
But, I had always been paid on the Friday (preceding weekend pay dates) for several years(4.5) when I worked here before. There was no reason to think otherwise. Maybe if he had asked/told me in advance, I would have been more accommodating.
Plus, I wasn't sure he had the money. |

Off topic, but:
If you save 100% pay one month then spend 100% pay the next month, does that mean you spend NO money during your saving months?
Or:
Do you spend roughly 50% of your pay one month then spend the other 50% the next month while saving 100% of that second month's pay? |

For example this month(November) is spend month. I allow myself to spend my entire salary,(if I want/need to). Next Month's entire salary, December + any leftovers from November will go directly into savings.
So to answer your question, I spend NO money during savings month.
This really could/should be another thread because I could talk about ways to save all day. Your friends and associates have to be in on it. Once I committed to this a couple of years ago, it has become a secondary thing.
I started out saving, 15,20,25 percent, each month. It was so hard!!!
Then I went cold turkey, two years ago, and found it easier to save a month and spend a month.
Thus, doubling my yearly savings. |

A hagwon can pay any day. I did the same type of thing. They asked me to work Saturdays so we could end early and have have a longer summer vacation. I agreed to this and 2 days before the end of the summer class they asked me if I could help and teach during the vacation just 30 minutes a day. Since I wasn't going to go anywhere I also agreed to this.
However, on the last day the manager went on her vacation, leaving me and my co-teacher. I asked the co-teacher about this and said I would need to talk with the owner if I didn't get paid. We went to the office and they said they would pay the following week (Wednesday). I stuck to my guns and said ok then let's talk to the owner about this. Surprised, they asked me to go back to class to finish it and talked on the phone with the manager.
I finished it and they said I could get paid on Monday instead. I said fine but I still wanted to talk to the owner. The co-teacher had a weird look on her face. I arrived home and got a text message from the manager that I could pick up my pay at 3pm that day.
After that incident I always got paid on time. No complaints. So, there is no need for the hagwon in this case to stall on paying. You did the work.
If they are collecting money from parents over the weekend, that means money is changing hands. Your hand could be one of them. Common sense really. |
