I have a position but my gf is not being re-signed due to budget cuts.

We really want to stay in South Korea but we're not really sure what to do because we want to live together. How doable are couple positions?

Anyway I'm just wondering what the likelihood is to get jobs where we can live together, since we're both currently here on an E-2 visa and with a year's experience.

Also is it true that if we're on E-2's now, if we get new job offers the visa just gets transferred? We don't need CBC's or diplomas again? I'm an American so getting a CBC would take like 2 months.

Anyway what would you guys do? I'm sure this happens now and then. Yeah we could try China or Vietnam or whatever but we rather like South Korea in all its crazy glory.

What about one of you choosing to take a housing allowance, rather than living in the school-provided housing, and simply share the apartment provided for the other one's housing? Or, if both sets of accommodations are too small, both take housing allowances and find a place together? I mean, just as another alternative to finding positions that place you both together....

The school I am at has hired couples, and has also hired one part of a couple, with the other half teaching elsewhere and taking the housing allowance offered by her school ('cause the apartments provided by this school were bigger than offered at hers).

We'd definitely be fine with that. I think a lot of schools prefer you take the apartment because they have a lease on it that is still active, though I'm sure plenty are happy to just give you the cash.

Have you seen the new EPIK contract yet?

READ the part about the 400,000 rent allowance because you may well found that its changed this coming Feb!

I'll let you see for yourself what it *may* say!

I haven't seen the new contract but I have seen a list of the changes, and the rental allowance thingy isn't part of the listed changes.

In any case we'd be fine with getting one apartment and no rental $$$ from the second job, anyway.

My wife and I had one month to find two afternoon positions in a specific area of Incheon. We turned down a few offers before taking positions last minute. It can be done (we didn't have transferable visas either), but it was a lot of work and stress.
