Hey Everyone,

So, I know I've asked similar questions before, but I'm still not sure what to do. Do schools, both public and private, care about the accreditation of a TESOL course?

Taking a CELTA is too expensive for me and I could do a 100 hours in-class TESOL that is accredited by TEFL Canada and has a 20 hour practicum, but it would be really expensive and cost me a lot because I also have to take time off work and live in another city for 5 months.

There is another option, which I'm seriously considering, which is a week (60 hours) in-class and 60 hours online. There is no teaching practicum and the course isn't accredited by anyone, however they claim to be internationally recognized.

What I want to know is, can I still find work with the second option, the 60/60 course? Will it be turned down by some schools or make it harder for me to find a job? Some recruiters have told me that schools only look at the total hours and don't particularly care about in-class hours or accreditation.

EPIK will accept the certification, as I've contacted them and asked them...although, they said something along the lines of "That course is acceptable. We accept any course as long as it's accredited." On the one hand, they told me that specific one was good, but then said they had to be accredited, which that one (Global TESOL) is not. But I'm also worried about private schools. Will private schools accept them? And will taking the 60/60 course lower my chances of getting hired compared to the all in-class one which is accredited by TESL Canada?

Thanks!

Rob

The "accreditation" of the course is not relevant since there is no "accreditation" for TESOL/TEFL certs.

Photoshop TESOL Academy works as well as a CELTA for Korean jobs.

Just make sure the cert says 100+ hours and includes 20 hours of "in-class" time.
