People think you are a troll becuase if you have done what you have said you have then you really have no one else to blame but yourself. The first day that she didn't pay you fully, you needed to be direct, no bullshit, no acting like a nice guy, just demand what was yours. Now its too late.
I feel sorry for you. And I mean that sincerely. You were too nice and she has taken advantage of it.

It's important to keep distance between yourself as the employee and your boss, so that when situations like this come up you don't have to feel guilty or whatever. I've had the ridiculous "Sorry, I couldn't pay you today. But, here, take a mandarin and a choco pie". She knows she can play you that way.

There are numerous posts and stickys on this board on how to go to the labour board in situations like this and hopefully get back some of what is owed to you. Read them.

The first thing I would do on Monday morning (or sooner) is speak frankly with your boss. She hasn't paid you. She has broken the contract with you. You need this rectified TODAY. If it isn't rectified within xyz days you will go to the labour board.

I believe your story, 100%! It saddens me that things like this are still happening in Korea. Usually, it happens to new teachers who are young, extremely optimistic, and very trusting. It sounds so bizarre, that many readers dismissed it as fiction. Please don't take it personally. You wrote here as a final plea for help, but instead was needlessly insulted.

Unfortunately, your boss "saw you coming." She tested you the FIRST time with late, no pay. You, fell for it, and now she has NO intention of paying you.

Last week, my boss wanted me to wait and pay a couple of days later. I said NO, pay me now. I'm not leaving until I'm paid. He paid in full. I wrote about it on this board, and was attacked and insulted.

You are the 7th person I have heard of this year who has worked months on end without getting paid and in full. It's really hard to wrap my mind about this reality. This lady needs to be reported ASAP!

Please go into work on Monday and let your boss know you cannot work another day until you have been given ALL of the monies owed you. If she says she cannot pay, tell her you must have at least half, or you cannot work there another day.

It is NOT YOUR PROBLEM that enrollment has decreased. One of my former bosses tried to tell the entire teaching staff to take a voluntary pay cut to keep his school finances in order.. I volunteered to leave and seek employment elsewhere. Guess what? He found the money to pay everyone.

I really don't think he's a troll. He posted a link to pictures of himself and the front and back of a genuine looking ARC. It said "E-2" and the dates on the back fit with this story.

You could go to the labor board but it may be a few months before you see any money. Your boss could kick you out of your apartment which wouldn't leave you in a very good position with only 150,000 won to survive on for the next month. beentheredonethat777 has some good advice. Try to get as much money from your boss now and later when you can report her to the labor board to get the rest.

2. He has an ARC card. This means with 1 year and 3 months, he should have 9 more months on the current card.
3. 9 months = about 18,000,000+ won
4. Credit cards can give you about 3,000 USD, this is more than enough to change schools and get 1 month in. You can pay back the credit card charges.
5. Some hagwons can advance you some money until your first pay day. You could negotiate to work more hours with less pay in exchange for upfront cash.
6. Make a friend or two, learn to live within your means and share. Costs will be lower and you can get more.

Until you are 30, you have nothing to whine or gripe about. Even then, you still have good job offers outside of the Mickey Mouse club hagwons in the center of the city.

This stunt used to be all the rage among hogwon bosses a few years ago.

They tried it on me but I gave a two-week payment deadline then walked.

Some guys I knew were strung along for months then simply gave up and headed for the airport.

A lucky few actually hung on for months then got paid all they were owed when business took a turn for the better. So obviously this practise had genuine beginnings. Korea was built on self-sacrificing company loyalty.
