|

Hey all, I'm moving to South Korea in January to teach, and right now I have one question that I haven't been able to find a satisfactory answer to:
1. I have an iPhone 4S here in the US. My carrier is AT&T. How do I go about having this same convenience in Korea at the least expense? Would it be better to add an international data plan to my existing plan, or to buy a similar service in Korea while I'm there? Or something else?
Thanks! |

This thread from Apple Support Community is about the 5 but contains posts referring to the 4S, specifically personal experience that they have used AT&T 4S phones in Korea.

Unless your just coming for a short visit get the sim and go with a Korean carrier.

Thanks, T-J. It seems posters in that thread are nearly all Verizon customers, so it's still a little obscure, but it did clarify things a bit and put me on a better track. Any other replies still welcome. |

Verizon 4 and 4S don't work in Korea. AT&T probably will with a local SIM.
Korean phones aren't subsidized like they are in the US, but plans are much cheaper with the purchase of a new phone. I pay around 85 a month for a Galaxy S4 with 6.5 GB of LTE on a 2 year contract, and I paid nothing upfront for the phone. Had I used my old phone with a Korean SIM, the same plan would cost $62 a month. |
