It will get better!!!! You are right at stage one of culture shock. After 90 days it will improve. Finishing a contract is a GOOD thing, Truthfully if you break the contract to look for a uni job the very first thing that will jump ou is that you do not finish contracts and are not stable. In a few weeks things will look much better. Reach out to co workers, study Korean. Thats a biggie. the sucessful poeple in ESL almost always have a food grasp of the local language. I think you will be okay. Take it day by day. The market is terrible right now not a good time to try to land a job.

He already did. Post is a year old. His update is that he stuck with his contract and is now teaching uni.

This is the best success story I've read during my short time browsing this site - way to go OP! And good on ya for giving this thread the happy bump.

Thanks for clarifying Hokie21. Very happy I stuck it out, getting that much needed uni experience. Don't know if I'll be in Korea for the long haul, but for now it suits me fine.

Rollo, you're right, studying Korean will be big for me (something I haven't been doing as much as I should). Need to get back onto doing that.

Gravity Wins, there are always success stories out here in Korea, quite a few actually, they just aren't posted on dave's all that often. For every one poster on dave's, there's probably a 100 teachers who are not even registered on this site. But I'm glad I could put out a success story to let others know that it's not all doom and gloom in Korea. While it is a bit of a gamble on that first contract, if you figure out how to make the most out of it, good things can come. Cool
