Just curious, can a Korean citizen tutor legally? For example, a native Korean wants to tutor people in math, English, science, yada yada...can they legally do this? Is there anything they need to do to be allowed (forms, taxes, etc)??
*Asking for a Korean friend (she's helpless with online research, but amazing at her particular subject) |

Technically they have to register as a tutor so their income gets taxed. In reality, I don't know of any Korean tutors who report their income. There's very little chance of getting caught unless you're very unlucky or you start tutoring a LOT of people or tutor a big group of students. |

Oh, okay. So it sounds like they legally are allowed to tutor (e.g., not illegal like it is for E2 visa people)? Would they register at the tax office...or some other sort of office? |

Haha yeah why would it be illegal for a Korean to be a tutor? We're talking about South Korea right? |

I had an F5 buddy register as a tutor and he was told he could charge 10,000 won an hour. No wonder folks just do it under the table. Government interferes here too much with too many rules.
Only difference for a Korean or someone on an F5 visa is they won't get deported. |

It should be okay. I know a few Koreans that do it. For one, she did it entirely as a living and reported everything to the government. |

But the government regulates what she can change and how many students you can have along with the type of housing or room you can even be in. Seems absurd to me. Prob why so many just do it under the table or at least until they've saved enough to open their own hakwon. |
